on the meal signup/ticket giving policy that was initiated at the first of 2008.....If you have a ticket for a meal and you are NOT going to be able to make it, PLEASE get us the ticket back so we can pass this ticket onto someone else!!!  We have many people wishing to come to these events, who do not have a ticket and if you are not going to use your's, we sure would like to get them back so we can serve others!!!  Thanks in advance for this!!!

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Jelly, Peanut Butter (not necessarily in the same jar)

WEDNESDAY WELCOME!!!
If you are visiting with us at contemporary or traditional worship, we welcome you! We recognize the "busy-ness" of the pastors on Sunday mornings makes it difficult to get to speak with them about your questions. Our monthly Wednesday Welcome sessions offer an informal setting where you can meet staff and learn more about programs and ministries here at GUMC. You are invited to come any time between 5 & 7:00 PM on February 6. Contact Martha Liles for more information.  Thanks, Martha!!

HAND BELL RINGERS REMEMBER!!!!!
Due to the Ash Wednesday services, there will be NO HANDBELL PRACTICE THIS WEEK!!!!!

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES TO
be held here in our sanctuary TOMORROW NIGHT starting at 7 PM!!
Remember:  Confirmation Class participants, your "homework" this week is to be in attendance at this solemn and ancient service!!!

WELL, HAVE MERCY...
you've been here at church the rest of the week, why not make it a "three for three!!!"  For on THURSDAY night of this week, Dr. Efird (of Duke Divinity School) will begin his Lenten Bible Study on the Book of Revelation (it's the last book in the Bible, if you were looking for it.......).  This study begins at 7 PM and lasts till around 8:30 PM.  This study is in the gym.  Tables and chairs are set up so you can have room to spread out your Bible, your note taking pad, and favorite NON-alcoholic beverage.

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Jelly, Peanut Butter (not necessarily in the same jar)

SAINTS ALIVE TO RISE BACK UP!!!!!
The Saints Alive Choir has been on sabbatical since their final performance of their program on 19 December.  However, this great bunch of folks will start back on ASH WEDNESDAY (tomorrow!!).  The choir starts back on tomorrow at 2 PM when they sing with the Senior Adult Daycare.  If you enjoy singing old fashioned hymns (bulwarks of our faith and church!!) then PLEASE come join us tomorrow (and EVERY Wednesday) at 2 PM in the Fellowship Hall.  You may think you are coming to "just" sing......but in reality, you may be touching a life (of a Senior Adult Daycare participant)!!!  Come...Please!!!

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Jelly, Peanut Butter (not necessarily in the same jar)

BRING A BULLETIN EAT A CHICKEN!!!!!!!
Brother Jerry Coleman of the Garner Chick-Fil-A (two locations, one at the Kroger Shopping Center on Timber Drive and another location at White Oak Shopping Center) believes in the concept of being CLOSED on Sunday's so employees of his locations can worship/rest/be with families.  But on Monday's he gets cranked right back up!!  So, on Monday nights from 5-8 PM at the Chick-Fil-A in Garner, if you present your this week's church bulletin you receive a FREE Chick-Fil-A sandwich!!!!!!!!!!!
Now how 'bout dat!!!!!  See if you don't get another blooming thing out of going to church you can at least say you got a Chick-Fil-A sandwich......FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!  See store for all the details AND THANK your server at Chick-Fil-A for this Christian outreach in the corporate world!!!!

WE JUST KEEP GETTING
smarter and smarter!!!!  First we have been learning English As A Second Language (ESL) for several years now up at the church.
And now (started in mid-January) your church is offering a GED program for Garner area residents as well!!!!!!  Both of these EXCELLENT programs are offered through Wake Tech and we are proud to be a sponsor/helpers in these endeavors!!!!!!!!!

BARRING A MONSOON.....
more than likely the Raleigh Water Department (where Garner buys it's water) will issue a Stage 2 water restriction either on or before 28 February.  In addition to NO outside sprinkler watering, Stage 2 will prohibit power washing, hand watering of outside plants, no filling of swimming pools (in other words no "water days" for children/youth events), and required repairs of leaking plumbing problems be made within 24 hours of found leak, will be only a few of the many restrictions on water use in the Garner area.  We as a church, ESPECIALLY since Mr. Dale Crisp, Public Utilities Director for the City of Raleigh is a member at Garner Church, want to do all within our power to be good stewards of God's resources.  Wouldn't it be bad if Mr. Dale had to come and cut the water off at his own church because we failed to comply with City of Raleigh requirements on water????????????????????????????????????
Here's what Stage 2 looks like from a city of Garner website:

READY TO RELAY?????
It's time for our annual team effort in the fight against cancer. We are excited to have Missi Baker and Jeannie Davenport as our Relay for Life co-captains this year. If you are interested in being on the Relay planning committee, please let one of them know. Once the committee gets our plans underway, we will calling on everyone to jump in and help so stay tuned for details. Make sure you have your calendars marked for the BBQ chicken dinner on March 28 and the Relay event on April 25-26. If you plan to be on our "Cooking for a Cure" team (that means you raise money and take your turn walking at the event), it's time to register. You are encouraged to do this on-line at www.events.cancer.org/rflgarner. There will also be a table set up in the gathering area the next 2 Sundays to help you with registration.  Thanks,   Martha

POWERFUL WORDS OF TESTIMONY
were given Sunday in worship by men in the church!!!  There are men seeking to be a part of God's outreach and service here at Garner church.  There are men in the shadows, in "the back," up front, along the sidelines, carrying the banner, that are being a part of the ministry experience at Garner church.  We give glory for ALL the men that strive to do what God would have them do in this ministry calling......Is there something that God is calling YOU to do and you have failed to act on it????  Be in prayer.  Be in thought.  But above all.......BE IN ACTION!!!

35 YEARS IN ONE PLACE!!
Sister Libby Frederick retired recently, from the Athletic Director's Office of N.C. State University!!  Now DAT'S dedication!!!  If you would like to read all about Libby and her retirement, here's the link:  http://www.gopack.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=9200&ATCLID=1378622&SPID=5530&SPSID=52991

BIBLE BUCKS MARKET
The Bible Bucks Market will be open again this Sunday, February 10th in Room 222 (by the Holy Java) from 9:00-9:30 and from 12:00-12:30.

SPARTY/BNO
Please bring your kids to join in on the fun this Saturday, February 9th from 6-10 as the children are reminded through scripture about inner beauty and self image.  The boys will meet in the CLC for pizza, games and basketball and the girls will meet in the fellowship hall for a SPA ART PARTY.

WHERE'S MY CROCK POT???
Oh yeah!!!  It's at the church!!!  Yes, there are still a goodly number of crock pots here at the church following the SOUP'er Bowl soup sale on 27 January.  There are also some pyrex dishes and the like here from this event as well.  Just wanted you to know in case you were looking for your crock pot..................

CHURCH BAY:

"Q" AIN'T FOR EVERYONE!!"
Jamie Hagwood doesn't like barbecue or barbecued chicken.  She doesn't like slaw, either, or potato salad.  What is a child to do to help fight cancer when she won't eat what's for sale?  Why, have your own fundraiser with the food YOU like, of course!  So that's what she's doing.  And there won't be the first speck of vinegar, cabbage, or mayonnaise in sight.  This is the fundraiser for all the picky 9 year-olds, their exasperated parents and all other "kids at heart."  For your donation you get a real hot dog with real processed meats, Kraft macaroni and cheese (when only the powdered cheese will do), applesauce and a chocolate chip cookie.  And a drink, of course.  Can you come join us?  After the JOG service and again after 11am worship on Sunday, April 6, we'll be down in the Fellowship Hall.  Kids can trace their hand prints for a poster honoring and remembering friends and family who have fought cancer.  All profits go to Garner United Methodist's Relay for Life challenge.  For more information or if you wish to help out, contact Jamie or Stacie Hagwood at 662-1568 or email to slh@pobox.com.
