WHERE IN 'DEM DAR HILLS
of Appalachia is 'dem dar Youth from our church going this year for their summer Youth Mission Trip????? Well, 'da ain't going to 'dem dar hills!!!! They staying right here in good ol' NC!! Brother Sammy Hudson is building a camp (along the lines of a Camp Don Lee or Camp Chestnut Ridge) in Ayden NC (just over the county line into Greene County). This camp will gear itself towards underprivileged kids. The dates for this outreach endeavor will be 15 June - 21 June, 2008. Possible work areas by the GUMC teams will be: working on the farm houses we are staying in, building the challenge course, building a fishing pier, clearing walking trails, building picnic tables....we are only limited by the amount of money we raise for this project. Type work, dress code, sleeping arrangements, food, etc. will all be along the lines of ASP, but this year we do something for one of our own who wants to do something for
1000's of kids throughout Eastern NC. Who from the youth group is going??????? Who is willing to step up to the challenge?? What adult, who may be unable to go, will be willing to help sponsor a youth that wants to go?? Pray for this endeavor?? This is a MASSIVE undertaking by Sammy and his team and it is going to be a MASSIVE undertaking by we as a Community of Faith and Believers.

SO MANY CHILDREN..........
and no one to teach them?? Can you imagine?? Folks, what be up?? We need volunteers in the children department to help keep up everything. One area of concern is Sunday School. Children's Sunday School is not rocket science........Ding dong song about Jesus and His love, a cut out of Moses and a partridge in a pear tree.....It ain't like you got to come up some calculus equations or anything. If you would be willing to help out with this, PLEASE get with
Jill Mikulecky (
mikulecky@mindspring.com). Thanking you advance..................

...............THEY ALWAYS WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE...................
Well, you ain't going to be able to say that about Garner Church's Vacation Bible School!!!
Word has it that come sometime around 20-22 June Garner church is going to be doing the VBS thing!!!! Great ideas are already swirling around about this ministry event. Need some good planners and some good ground laying folks. But ABOVE all, and ANY of us can help out with this one..............Pray as the ground swell starts for VBS, 2008!!!!!!!!
PACK RATS, JUNK COLLECTORS, GOOD PEOPLE.....
if any of the three groups aforementioned have a toaster oven
(that has a timer on it) that are no longer using said toaster oven and would be willing to donate this to the church's youth group, PLEASE let Patricia know. During one of the Discovery weekend events, the kids will be making something out of clay and then it is to be "cured" in a toaster oven. THIS ACT OF "CURING" WILL RENDER THE TOASTER OVEN "UNUSEABLE" for food preparation so if you let the youth group "use" this toaster oven it will then become a "gift." And TRUST ME, you will NOT want it back. If you have the toaster oven, please let Patricia know as soon as possible.
09 MARCH!!! 09 MARCH!!! 09 MARCH!!!
With regret I have to inform you that this year, we will only have two opportunities to serve the folks in the Wake Interfaith program ("our communities response to homeless families in our area"). We will have up to four families staying with us for one solid week (7 days....Sunday till Sunday). Even with this event being a few weeks out, we are already in prayer for folks that will step up and be van drivers (in the morning and in the afternoon) and also are looking for overnight hosts. ***Side bar on this one......Just to show you that one clown don't make the circus stop, but it sure can put a "kink" in things, Wake Interfaith is really needing folks to be van drivers this time, because in time past we have relied so much on Ed Austin to be a van driver.....But with Ed's passing late last year, Wake Interfaith is just another example of our "feeling Ed's absences." PLEASE be in prayer about stepping up to be a van driver in March.

MORTAR SHELLS, JESUS, DISPLACED PEOPLE,
Garner Methodist Church.....What'a combination!!! Over two thousand years ago Christ called His people "to love one another." He entrusted to us, "love your neighbor, as your self." And in SO many ways this church at Garner has been doing just that!! And since "The Dream," was formulated years ago, by then Pastor Jimmy Sutton, Garner church has continued this "loving our neighbor," concept through the opening of this new building. This building has been used in so many ways to better and to embrace our "neighbors," ALL around us. This week has been no different with the first ever opening of a disaster shelter at Garner church through the American Red Cross. Our numbers we have been assisting this week have been small, but assisting with a Christ heart, has been HUGE!!! In His Word, God states, "My word will not come back to Me void." I believe also that our deeds, done in His name, will not come back to our congregation void either!!! If you are NOT involved in Missions of SOME KIND at our church, please ask yourself and more importantly God, why in the world you are not!!!!!!!
WHAT A GRAND OLD TIME
was had by the boys and girls of the church this past Saturday night when the Girls had a Spa and beauty party in the Fellowship hall where they were reminded of what the Scriptures taught them about positive self image and positive self esteem. While at the same time the boys were up in the gym playing different games and learning, also, about a positive self esteem.....Reports from the gym night finds that many of our young males are having NO problems with a positive self image!!!! HA!!! Carlene and her crew wished to send out a special thanks to all the parent volunteers AND to the Youth volunteers that made this evening so special to so many of our kids!!!!!!
CHILDREN'S WEEKLY TRIVIA QUESTION:
Every week we are going to give the children a trivia question that will be related to their next Sunday School lesson. They will be given a scripture reference and a set of questions. Parents may help their child look up the scripture and find the answer. The answers are to be written and placed in the manilla envelope on the Children's Ministry Board each Sunday morning. Once your answers are received you will receive 2 Bible Bucks. If you miss the question in Friday's church chat, you can get it from the Children's Ministry Board or the website.
TRIVIA QUESTION FOR FEBRUARY 17, 2008
Scripture Reference: Matthew 6: 25-33.
Trivia Question: What does Jesus tell us not to worry about? Why? Instead of worrying, what should we put first?
When we depend on God to provide for us we are free to focus on what God wants us to be and do. We are free to serve God more fully with our whole hearts, souls, minds, and strength.

REMOLDING?? WANT A SUN ROOM??
What about a deck or maybe a patio. Spring is coming and with the "breaking" of the weather so will construction type jobs. So before the "rush" for home additions, sun rooms, car ports, etc., start, give Robert Lucas (yes, he belongs to Carlene!!!) a call. If you need construction work done, remolding, repairs, no matter what it is, let Robert come and give you a free no obligation estimate. Don't believe you will be disappointed. Here's Robert's number: 779-3654
FURNITURE MOVING HELP NEEDED:
Ann Pearce's sister passed away a few weeks ago and she had a piano that she wanted Ann to have. The only problem with this is that the piano is in Greenville SOUTH CAROLINA and Ann's house is less than a mile from our church. Ann is wondering if there is anyone that is willing to go to South Carolina and get the piano and bring it back to Garner. She is willing to pay for the gas for this trip AND make a donation to the church!!! Ann's number is 772-1445 if you wish to get more specifics on this request.
