SAFETY FIRST: (from Staff Parish Relations Committee)
With increased safety concerns in our community, please be aware of the following security guidelines.  The church doors will be locked in the event that one or two staff members are in the office area alone.  While this may seem to be a minor inconvenience for members and visitors who wish to gain entry to the building, we can put forth a positive attitude and take the necessary precautions to ensure all members, visitors, and staff is safe.  Your support in this matter is much appreciated, Jeannie Davenport, Chairperson of Staff Parish Relations Committee.

SWITCHEROO!! FOR AGAPE KIDS CHOIR!!!
Parents of Agape choir children: The Agape has rescheduled their date of singing in the 11:00 service to coincide with the children's chimers ringing for SUNDAY, MARCH 2ND.
Please contact Steve Wheltle if you have any questions.

MISSIONS....MISSIONS....MISSIONS EVERYWHERE!!!!
Mississippi is calling!! The damage from Katrina is far from gone! College students and adults!!!!!
I will be heading to D'Iberville, Mississippi for the week of May 12-16 to try to get some more families back into their homes before the heat of summer is upon them.  Every trip to D'Iberville has been a new and exciting experience.  I am encouraging our college youth to join the adults on this adventure and shake off the stress of final exams and enjoy the thrill of helping others before you start those summer jobs.  If you are interested in joining the mission please join us in person or by phone (college students out of the area)  on  February 27, 2008 at 6:30 PM in the Church Library or call into conference number 877-421-0025 Password 117885.  You can contact Jerry or Terri Leeman at 919 851-8516 or email at leemanj@us.ibm.com if you have any questions.   If you are not giving you are not living! Total cost of the trip will be between $150 to $200 meals , lodging and transportation.   Hope to meet with you on the 27th bring a friend or two. The more the merrier.

And speaking of more the merrier: I am always touched by all that happens when I go on one of these adventure. This time it has started before we even had our first meeting. I was touched again as I had two people contacted me after the last note to say they could not make the trip BUT they would like to sponsor a college student.  I think it is great that we have this type of team work with people  who will donate for a college student to attend.  I am sure many of the students that are considering this trip are having to toil over spending the money and the time to go. Not only that but when they give up a week of work, with no pay, with only 15 weeks  to work in the summer; it is big sacrifice.   If anyone else wants to sponsor a student or even part of their cost send a check made out to Garner United Methodist Church (GUMC) Katrina Missions,  and mail it to my house, 2704 Rolling Oaks Lane, Raleigh, NC 27606  or drop it by the Church and I will make sure it is put to good use.  Thanks so much,Jerry Leeman

CLC KITCHEN UPDATE:  (From Board of Trustees)
Our CLC Kitchen is a wonderful facility.  Many Garner UMC members planned and worked tirelessly through the planning, building and equipping phases to make the kitchen a reality. A Trustee sub-committee has been formed to ensure that the CLC Kitchen remains in compliance with all health, safety regulations, and standards of cleanliness.
The Adult Day Care accreditation requires that the CLC kitchen meet all standards all the time. As a church we must provide a climate of safety of those working in the kitchen as well as those consuming the food from the kitchen.
To that end the locks on the CLC kitchen have been changed (as of Friday 2/15/08) and an exit push bar installed on the door on the ground floor, off the kitchen elevator, exiting the building.  Your old keys will no longer work.  These keys are unique.  They cannot be copied at Home Depot, Hudson's, etc.   The CLC kitchen keys will be made by a locksmith.  The locksmith will need permission from the church to make another key.  In the mean time a Pass key procedure will enable those needing to use the CLC kitchen entry.  Please be patient as we continue to work through the process of making our CLC kitchen a healthy, clean and safe environment.  The Trustee Sub-Committee: Larry Chandler, Rachel Huie and Sally Keffer

CRAZY KIDS!!!!!
Do you know that I was standing on the outside of the downstairs church door and I could see the children in the courtyard (or anywhere downstairs) and they just looked at me and would not let me in!!!!!!!  If this happens, PLEASE come to the church office so we can identify these kids/children.....TO GIVE THEM A SUCKER!!!!!  The Track Out Program is training ALL their participants NOT to open a door to let ANYONE from the outside in WITHOUT GOING AND GETTING AN ADULT FROM THE TRACK OUT PROGRAM!!!!  How many people that have hurt and have wanted to hurt children have lured them with the ruse such as "come and see the pretty puppy I have...."  Track Out program staff are not instilling fear our kids, just responsible actions.

IT'S THE GRAND RE-OPENING
of Holy Java Coffee at Garner Methodist!!!
Beginning March 2, Garner UMC is proud to begin partnering with Bushiban to bring you the finest coffee available.  Along with Glacier and decaf, you will have the opportunity to sample rotating "Flavors of the Week," including Toasted Southern Pecan, Hawaiian Hazelnut, Vanilla Nut, and Chocolate Creme Brule.  We will no longer carry flavored creamers, but will have Hazelnut, Vanilla and Caramel syrups in pump bottles, along with the Hershey's chocolate syrup, half-n-half and whipped cream for you to customize the perfect cup of coffee!
While Holy Java has previously strived to turn a profit to benefit the church, we are now focused solely on bringing you a fine cup of coffee at a break-even price.  The suggested donation will remain the same at $1 for coffee, hot chocolates and tea, and $1.50 for size large, regardless of add-ins.  Come join us on Sunday mornings from 9:00am-10:30am.

And for a limited time.....you can help the youth by enjoying sausage biscuits, cinnamon rolls, apple danish and juices during the same hours.  All monies go to help youth who have put in service hours, to offset the costs of youth activities.
