WASN'T THERE SOMETHING
about helping the Ronald McDonald house with something for Easter???? Here you go with that one:
We are collecting Easter basket items (candy, small gifts, school supply items such as crayons, notepads, etc.) for the 30 children at the Ronald McDonald House in Durham. If you are able, would you please bring items to the church by the morning of March 16th to help us fill the baskets? Donations toward the purchase of Easter basket items are also welcome. The children will put the baskets together before their Easter Egg Hunt on March 16th. Thanks for helping our kids help other kids! You may drop your items off in the collection box by the elevator. Thanks, Carlene.
IF I WANTED TO JOIN
a group of fun loving gals, who want to serve the Lord in deed and not just talk and banter, where could I go????
Here you go:
The Mary Magdalene Circle is a service oriented circle that serves on various projects and services throughout the year. We chose the name Mary Magdalene because of the passion Mary had for Christ. Our desire is to give our lives to Jesus and to follow him closely as Mary did, and to allow God to change us so we'll become more like him. We communicate primarily through emails and meetings, which are held on the fourth Saturday of each month at 5:30. We welcome all women to come and join us for a wonderful time of fellowship as we exchange thoughts, prayers, and ideas on current and future service projects. Our next scheduled meeting is on Saturday, April 26th in the fellowship hall at 5:30. For further information please contact Carlene Lucas at 779-3654 or email
Clucas01@msn.com. Thanks, Carlene.
OK, OK, HAVE SEEN
a bunch about women's studies and women doing things around the church, is there anything for men to be about learning about the things of Christ??? Got you covered there as well!!! The Wednesday night men's Bible Study group will be studying The Handwriting on the Wall by David Jeremiah. Dr. Jeremiah shows how an understanding of prophecy in the Book of Daniel opens a pathway to dynamic, faithful living today with confidence and hope for the future. There will be weekly meetings for 31 weeks. The cost of 3 study guides are $24 and the book is $13. The meetings are from 7:00-8:15 on Wednesday nights. If you have any questions or are interested, please call Ricky Hines at 772-2383. Thanks, Ricky.
WHAT A CELEBRATION!!!
In my many years of being at Garner church, the crowd for Moreland's home going service of Wednesday, was the largest I had seen (Bryan-Lee's Alex Lee confirmed my/other's observation) You folks at Garner church just "shown out!!!" Things were organized, they flowed, we had very few glitches and the glitches that did occur were so minute that they were rendered "no glitches." Due to your efforts, this family was administered to in a MIGHTY way!! Moreland's aged mother was able to see, touch and hear stories of her only son from SO, SO, many in the Forestry Service, different churches, etc., that she had only heard about in stories from Moreland. Bonds were made with Forestry people and church people (not only from our congregation but from the other congregations that Moreland had served over the years) that will NOT be broken by time. We did EXACTLY what Moreland would have wanted to see....we came together, over fellowship and a meal. And after it was all said and done, we had bankers and school teachers, retired people and youth and "big dawgs" and not so big dawgs, all working together to turn this massive event completely around as if nothing had ever occurred in our hallowed halls.....Garner church, you out done yourself on Wednesday.......What CAN'T ya'll do?????????
WHO MADE THE "MEXICAN" LASAGNA!!!
At the covered dish (meal for Moreland on Wednesday), the food was awesome, of course. I tried a lasagna that had Mexican flavors instead of the normal Italian flavors. My family would really like that. Could you please put a request on Church Chat for the recipe.....I don't know who brought it. Thanks, Lib Winborne.
IS IT GOING SO GOOD, NO ONE ELSE NEEDED???
Have not had an update lately on HOPE Ministry. Is it going so well, that they don't need anyone else to step up???? Here's Lee Ellen with ALL you ever wanted to know about HOPE:
As this ministry grows and develops, we are turning to a quarterly rotating schedule for meals. Volunteers provide one portion of the meal, once every 3 months, or 4 times a year. Each week we have a main dish, 3 side dishes, bread, drinks, and bottled water to feed 25 to 30. THANKS to the many groups and individuals who have already offered to help. We still need the following:
Main dish (spaghetti, roast beef, meat loaf) NEED 2 MORE VOLUNTEERS
Side dishes (vegetables, casseroles, potatoes, salad, fruit) NEED 12
Bread (2 -3 dozen rolls, garlic bread) NEED 7
Drinks for the meal (2 or 3 2 liter drinks) NEED 7
Case of bottled water (so they can take a bottle with them) NEED 9.
Providers bring food/supplies (clearly labeled) to the downstairs kitchen by 2:00 on Saturday. You are welcome to stay for the fellowship if you wish. Schedules will be provided. To sign up, call Lee Ellen Coffey at 662-0206, or send a message to our special email for HOPE meals (appropriately called
HOPEmeals@yahoo.com). Please let me know if you have questions or need further information.
HOPE stands for Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement. Think about how you can participate and provide HOPE to some of the least of these. It can be as easy as buying 2 or 3 2 liters of Coke once a quarter! And it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
FOOD OF THE MONTH: Boxed Mac'n Cheese.
THE CHURCH HAS "SO" MANY
flavors of different styles of Christian Music, we are like the Baskin Robbins of Church Music here at Garner church!!! But I really like that good ole toe tapping Gospel music; is there anywhere I can tap (no pun) into this type of music at Garner church????? You BETCHA!!!!
AL, would you please put in Church Chat about the starting back of the JAMES AUMAN SINGERS' gospel group. We are planning our first meeting at 6:30 pm on Wednesday,March 19th,in the James Auman classroom. Anyone interested in being a part of this special group, please make plans to attend. Thanks.
Larry McCluskey 779-4781 & Bill McClure.
