CHURCH CHAT

Church Chat April 15, 2008

BLOOMERS NEEDED FOR CHURCH:

Please put a plea in Church Chat for flowers for the adornment of the sanctuary for the following dates: May 4 & 11  June 1, 8, 15 & 22  Thanks so much, Martha!!

DOES ANYONE EVEN

need to remind you to cover any tender plants that you may have already planted or may have just sprung up???  Tonight, it is supposed to dip into the mid/low 30's and it could get "dicey," before day break on plant material.

HOW DO I SAY THANKS???

Joe and I would like to express our appreciation of our church family for the prayers, cards, food and words of comfort following the death of my mom.  We now know in reality through your acts of kindness that we as believers know in theory that within the body of Christ we are never, ever alone.  With great thanks, Christie Koon.

"OUTSIDE" SPRING CLEAN UP

day is THIS SATURDAY!!!  There will be 3 dump truck loads of mulch; two at the church and one at the parsonage.  So bring long handled lawn tools that can help pick up/distribute mulch.  Wheel barrows will also be needed.  PLEASE, DO NOT TRIM ANY ROSE BUSH ON THE PROPERTY!!  The shrub roses and the

cane roses are FULL of blooms and ANY trimming at this time will severe most of the blooms!!! Gas powered blowers and edgers will also be needed.  PLEASE also be aware that weeds  in the beds will have been sprayed by the time you mulch spreaders get here, and we want the Round Up to work all the way to roots, so be mindful that any weeds touched with bare hands have a potential to be contaminated with Round Up.

Can't wash outside windows with water hoses (due to restrictions on water) but need to get the marshmallow "bullets" off the windows in the gathering area window near the drink machine. A 12 foot "A" frame ladder and glass cleaner to be supplied.  There will be other chores that will need doing as well.  Come, let's make God's House look like Augusta #9!!

COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO WE

ran Ian Gueth's snail mail address, with the promise that as soon as we got Christina's we would run her's as well.

Got that one now, so, first, let me give you Christina's:

3246 Apt. F Moseley Dr.  Greenville, NC  27858

AND YES, BEFORE YOU EVEN ASK.....I can run Ian's again as well:  9528 Lee Yancey Road  Bullock NC 27507.

WITH MOST THANKFUL ELATION!!

Boy Scout Troop 391 would like to thank everyone who came to support our Spaghetti Fundraiser for the Ward family on Friday.  Thanks to you it was a huge success!  Your generosity knows no bounds!!!  Thanks, BSA Troop 391 of Garner United Methodist Church.

HEY YOUTH!!!  WHO'S GOING?????

Who's let Patricia know???  Here's what you need to know if you going:   Busch Gardens May 10, 2008.  The youth will be going to Busch Gardens on Saturday May 10th.  We will leave about 6:30 AM spend the day and return home about 11PM Saturday night.  Cost of admission is $47.  You will also need spending money in the park for lunch and dinner on the way home.  Sign up sheet is on the youth bulletin board. Thank you!!! Patricia!!!

WELL, MY ME!!!

What a turn out!!  This past weekend we had a Board of Trustee's sponsored "Spring Clean Up" day here at the church for the INSIDE of the church facility!!!  And for the four people that showed up, what a mighty cleaning day was had!!  I don't think you could find any cleaner first 8 pews (in the sanctuary) in all of Garner!!  And that one side of the glass door in the Narthex is so clean a person could see themselves!!  If we have as many people to show up THIS coming weekend for the OUTSIDE Spring clean up day, we should at least be able to get the pruning of the first three shrubs up by the front door and six or seven pitch fork loads of mulch in one of the natural areas.  Dream big!!!

SOME OF THE BEST TO

have performed!!!  This is what is being said about the latest crop of "Garner Sinfonia" orchestra here at Garner Church.  Maestro Steve Wheltle had this latest crop of

God's musicians here at the church over the weekend to take them through the paces.  And even STEVE was taken back/impressed by this group.  He threw some of the more difficult pieces at this group, and still they performed as if they had been playing together for years!!!  Wait till you hear THIS group!!!!  Just you wait!!!!!

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Boxed Cereal

CHURCH BAY:

YOU'RE INVITED!!!!!

Neuse Little Theatre will be presenting Foxfire at THE HUT on the corner of Market and Front Streets in Smithfield May 9, 10, 16-17 at 8 pm and May 11th at 3 pm. This would make a great Mother's Day show as the show's star is a mother dealing with the changes in her life from what it used to be. Here is a summary of the story.

"Annie Nations, an indomitable Appalachian widow of 79, lives on her mountain farm with the acerbic ghost of her husband Hector. Her tranquility is threatened by a brash real estate developer who wants to turn her land into a vacation resort and by concern over her son Dillard, a country singer who has come home with two stranded children because his wife has run away. Annie's battle to decide her future takes her through some funny, touching and magical flashbacks to her life with Hector. Played on Broadway by Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, this couple offers a staunchly affirmative tribute to country folk. Dillard, still singing the music which used to infuriate his father, has an exuberant scene in which the audience becomes his public at a fairground concert. Can Dillard woo his mother away from the recalcitrant ghost? Will development swallow up the family farm? Only Annie can decide.

Come and enjoy a lovely story with some Bluegrass Music thrown in the pot."  Come on out, ya'll hear......Stephanie Veren
