FREEZE!!!! STOP!!!!!! PARENTS OF YOUTH!!!
And/Or Youth….PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to this one: The church has been offered a GREAT deal to go to Carowinds on 10 May instead of Busch Gardens that we previously were going. The cost of the Busch Gardens admission price was going to be $47 per person BUT the Carowinds cost to enter the park is ONLY $26 per person!! HOWEVER…..if you are planning on going we have to have your name in by THIS FRIDAY AT NOON!!! DID YOU HEAR ME??? THIS FRIDAY AT NOON!!! DID YOU HEAR ME!!! You may e-mail Patricia, you may call Patricia and leave a voice mail on her church phone, you may call the church office and leave your name and number with the person at the desk…You may send a smoke signal, but SOMEHOW/SOMEWAY, you will need to let Patricia know by THIS FRIDAY AT NOON if you plan to go to Carowinds with the youth group on 10 May!!!!!!!! Do you understand????????
WHILE YOUTH/PARENTS OF YOUTH
Are standing at attention if you have a child graduating, from High School OR College (or if you are a youth and you have enough responsibility about yourself) and you want something besides a blank screen when your child's name comes up at the graduating Seniors slide show on Youth Sunday, then Patricia needs to start receiving some pictures. When the slide show starts on that Sunday and it announces, "Billy Earl," or "Suzy Jean," and there ain't no picture to go along with said name, it will be too late to think about sending the picture then……Can you hear me now??????? PATRICIA NEEDS SOME PICTURES!! Hello??
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A
Week makes!!!! Glorrrreeee Beeeeeee!!! The Board of Trustee's sponsored Spring Outdoors Clean Up Day was this past Saturday and have mercy!!! If a stick the size of a match stick or greater was found on the church grounds on Saturday there was at least three Scouts (Cub, Tiger, Boy, etc.) to pick it up. You want to see a 6-foot tall mulch pile disappear??? Bring it to the church!!!
There were Scouts here, there were daddies and mamma's of Scouts here, there were our Methodist Youth Fellowship here, there were our "worker bee" members here, there were folks EVERY WHERE!! I mean EVERY where!!! And WOW!!! What a great job they ALL did!!! Hey, while we have it looking this good, let's put it on the realty market!!!! Just kidding!!! Just wanted to see how good Bob/Susan and the Conference's nitro glycerin tablets were working…….it's ok…..breathe deep……..But all joking aside, what a WONDERFUL job everyone did on Saturday!!!!
WHAT'S COMING UP THIS WEEK??????????
Well first biggie thing to come to pass will be the Garner Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo here at the church!!!
The Expo is going to be really show casing businesses around Garner and I am down with this……But have you heard…..
Liberty Heath and Martha Liles have come up with ANOTHER lunch meal for the Expo attendees!!! If you don't come but to eat lunch on that day, you will have done a FINE day's work!!!
If you would like to link from our church's web page to the chamber's web page, here's how:

DUDE!!! EXPO UPDATE!!!!
Chamber officials were by the church on yesterday to do a walk through and we got the latest numbers from them…..If you remember, last year's event had around 45 vendors at the Business Expo. This year there are 93 vendors inside the facility and 5 vendors outside the facility!!! This thing is going to be HUGE!!!
Everyone working this event, PLEASE put on a smile. Put off the attitude, "that ain't my job." Put on your Tom-Tom or Garmin
Knowledge so you can show folks where to go. Be happy. Be patient. Be courteous. And above all……..be in prayer. Someone coming through our doors on Thursday may not have a saving knowledge in Jesus Christ…………
OK, EXPO ON THURSDAY…..
And we are just getting our breath….and BAM!! Here comes Relay for Life out at Lake Benson on Friday!!!! I am sure we will be hearing more from the Relay team about this, but if you would like more "in your hands," info, here's a link to the church's web page: http://www.garnerumc.org/outreach/relay.html

HAS JESUS CHRIST DONE
Anything for you in your life??? Have you been wanting to give something back, but just did not know where or how??? Did you want to give something back to Him, but are not quite ready to make that trip to Africa or inner city, large city??? Want to give something back to Christ and the folks you are "giving back" to appreciate what you give?? Don't make fun of you?? Are as receptive to what you have to offer as a dry sponge to a sink full of water??? Then here is where you need to be on TONIGHT!!!
Discovery Meeting Tuesday April 22 at 7 PM in the Jr. High Youth Room. Bring your surveys to evaluate this year's weekend as we begin planning for Year Three of Discovery. SECURITY ALERT!!!!!!!
Ladies, please be cautious about bringing your purse into church with you! If you do bring it, please do NOT let it out of your sight at any time. My wallet was stolen out of my purse Sunday morning while at church AND it happened during the few (probably less than 10-15) minutes that it was on the ushers' table in the narthex. I only had my eyes off of it for just a few seconds/perhaps a minute and it vanished......along with my credit cards, ATM card and drivers' license!
For your own peace of mind, please do two things that I sincerely wish I had done:
1) Write down the card names and numbers for ALL of your cards and your license. Keep this in a safe place........NOT in the wallet itself.
2) Leave your purse locked securely in your car or keep it securely ON YOUR PERSON at all times while you're at church.
I don't want this to happen to anyone else. We all need to feel that we, our families AND our belongings can be safe in our church, but obviously, this isn't the case! Thanks, Edna Reynolds.
RAIN, DUST, YELLOW POLLEN,
All can do a number on the cleanliness and up keep on our cars.
Have you heard that the Youth are selling AutoBell Car Wash tickets to take care of these, and other exterior car matters???
And the good thing about the Youth sponsored car wash tickets, it's for the "Full Monty," and not that "lick and a promise,"
$6.95 that AutoBell so prominently advertises out front of their establishment. Help send a youth on their mission trip this year and clean up that mess of a car or yours!!!!!
MAN!! I KEEP MISSING MY
Favorite (coffee) Flavor of the week. Is it posted some place so I can know weeks in advance what flavor is coming up???
You asked for it….you got it!!!!! http://www.garnerumc.org/events/coffee.html
PROVIDING HOPE!!
Thanks again to the many folks who have responded to the call to provide HOPE by supplying portions of the Saturday afternoon HOPE meal. Our quarterly rotation schedule is almost full! A copy is posted on the bulletin board near Carlene and Patricia's office. The few remaining openings are the easiest ones! If you'd like to provide bread, 3 2 liter drinks, or a case of bottled water 4 times a year, please contact Lee Ellen Coffey HOPEmeals@yahoo.com or 662-0206. If you would like to help but can't commit to a schedule, we'd be happy to add you to the 'substitute' list for occasional support. THANKS!
THANK YOU AND WHAT FUN!!!!!!
We would like to thank the kids and adults who participated in, "Do you know the Bible like a GUMC kid?", and we'd like to give great big thanks to our host Richard Godfrey for making the show so enjoyable and humorous. A great time was had by the contestants, kids, and the audience. Thank you all!!! The kids had so much fun they can't wait until we do it again. (If you could not be there, see the pictures of this event on the children's bulletin board across the hallway from Carlene's/Patricia's office) Thanks, Carlene!!!
HAVE YOU BEEN IN
prayer about stepping up for the Children's Sunday School Classes: A Sunday school coordinator is needed for our children's Sunday school. This person would be responsible for updating and maintaining the Sunday school schedule for our Sunday school teachers, recruiting SS teachers, and making sure the teachers receive the curriculum each quarter. Sunday school teachers and Children's Church leaders are needed as well. The Bible stories and craft ideas are provided for you in leader guides. Please contact Carlene Lucas at the church office for more information.
TAKES $1000.00 TO KEEP A
Child up at the Methodist Home for Children and because of your donations….well, here's Carlene with the specifics:
Thank you to all of the adult Sunday school classes for generously giving and supporting the kids in their efforts to raise money to help support a child at The Methodist Home for Children. The kids collected $88 from the Sunday school classes. Thank you!!!!
CLASSROOM MANGEMENT:
(remember, this has nothing what so ever to do with Alyce Poole or the way she acts in Sunday School….nothing what so ever!!!)
Teacher Training Workshop April 29, 2008 @ 7:00
In an effort to address recent discipline concerns from volunteers and parents there will be a teacher training on Classroom Management on April 29, 2008 at 7:00pm. The workshop will be led by Sue Ellen Nicholson, the Director of Children, Youth, and Young Adult Ministries for the NC Conference. The training is for Sunday school teachers, children's church volunteers, parents, and anyone who volunteers or is interested in volunteering with the children.
WITH GREAT PRIDE,
For one of our own……Tricia (Maddrey) Baker sends us this message about her dad and we just could not help but share this.
We try and get folks to volunteer for something for once a quarter or a Sunday once a year….but this Brother from our fellowship has been volunteering for 70 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's Tricia:
"Dad just told me last night that the American Red Cross is going to honor him for 70 years of service! They are making a big deal out of this because he is the only person to have that many years in this area. Dad has a great story about how he started, and all the different responsibilities he has had over the years. He taught paraplegics and amputees swimming when folks thought that weak in body meant weak in mind, back in the 1940's. He headed up the WSI camp for many years. He has taught courses and been chapter leader." We thank Tricia for sharing this GREAT honor for her dad!! What'a guy!!!!
