CHURCH CHAT

Church Chat May 30, 2008

WHAT DEADLINES ARE COMING UP

At the church?

1st one coming up really quick is THIS Sunday in that this will be the final day to take sign ups for the golf tournament.  There is still time…right now to sign up.  If you have not, go to this site and find out more info:  http://www.garnerumc.org/events/Golf2008[2].pdf

2nd thing coming up THIS Sunday is that the VBS coordinators are asking for PRE-VBS registrations be completed so that a handle on numbers/possible food/craft purchases can start to be formulated.

3rd thing coming up pretty fast is the children's shoe collection that the James Auman SS class is sponsoring to give to Helen Little when she comes on 08 June.  Get your shoes in quick as possible please!!!

4th   deadline that is coming up pretty quick is the 10 June deadline to get your deposit in and name on the list to go white water rafting

in July!!!!  This year they are going to go "uptown," with actual cabins, bathrooms and electricity!!!  Due to nature of this type trip this adventure will only be open to Senior High Youth and College age.  Something about this trip reminds me of the old saying, "if you can't run with the big dawgs, stay on the porch……"

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Canned meat

WIDE OPEN!!!
Who wants to put flowers in the sanctuary for 04 July Sunday???  Who wants to put flowers in the sanctuary for ANY Sunday in July………Call or e-mail Wanda in the church office for ANY date you wish, as ANY/ALL dates in July are wide open!!!

Papa's birthday, somebody's anniversary, just what???  Make that call NOW…..today!!!  Before someone beats you too it!!!

GOD IS SPEAKING

To someone out there in Church Chat land that they are the "one" that He is calling to help out on this.  We have ran this several times and have gotten a few more folks to help out, but this request is so easy, "a cave man could do it…"  If there are a few of you out there that are doing a "Jonah to Tarshish" instead of the "Jonah to Nineveh," learn from Jonah……..Life is a LOT easier when we go/respond when God calls.  To that end, let's do this one again:

As the HOPE Ministry grows, so does the need for food.  We need to add the following to our once-every-3-months schedule:

12 side dish providers (dish to serve 20-25 people)

10 SNACK providers  (granola bars, pop-tarts, etc)

Just a few of the super easy ones left:

2 more bread providers (3 dozen rolls, muffins, etc)

1 more drink provider (3 2 liter drinks)

1 more bottled water (case)

SNACKS, which is new, is another really easy one!  Ideas are granola bars, peanut butter and cheese crackers, apples, other (mostly) non-perishable, individual serving type items to send home.  If you don't want to be on the rotation, a one-time donation to the Snack Supply would be great.  Mark it for HOPE and place in the Missions collection bins near the elevator.

To sign up for a spot or obtain information, contact Lee Ellen Coffey at HOPEmeals@yahoo.com or call 662-0206.  Please consider how you can help.

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Canned Meat

THIS SATURDAY!!!  THIS SATURDAY!!!

Troop 391 will be holding a LARGE MULTI-family yard sale on Saturday May 31 from 7AM-1PM at 1005 Vandora Springs Road, the intersection of Vandora and 7th Avenue.  This is across the street from the Credit Union where other yard sales and plant sales have gone on in time past.  In addition to the usual range of clothing and household goods, rain barrels will be available for $50.

THIS SUNDAY!!!  THIS SUNDAY!!!!  THIS SUNDAY!!!

PARENT-TEACHER INFO MEETING ANNOUNCED!!

June 1, 2008    Time:  12:15-1:30

Parents and teachers are asked to please attend our parent-teacher meeting on June 1st.  We will start with the youth luncheon (donation) in the CLC, then move to room 211 at 12:45 to discuss classroom expectations, safe sanctuaries, promotion Sunday, and our discipline policy.  This will be a great time for parents and teachers to get to know each other.  Childcare will be provided after lunch.  Thanks, Carlene.

ALSO THIS SUNDAY!!!  ALSO THIS SUNDAY!!!!

Youth after church luncheon with Virginia style sliced hams and then a very goodly variety of different salads to boot will be the food of the day!!!  You don't even need a "meal ticket," for this one!!!!  One of the chef's from the North Raleigh resturant "J.K's" is going to be helping in the kitchen, so the youth are adding another taste pleasing twist to the mix!!!!!  Look, you can go to church and come right across the hall and get lunch!!!  No mess, no fuss, no standing in line with a bunch of folks you don't even know!!!  What a deal!!!!!

WAS THE QUEEN IN TOWN THIS WEEK????????

No, no, she was in jolly old England, but on Wednesday some folks were wondering if she was in Garner when your church hosted the Garner Educational Foundation SCOR reading program volunteer luncheon here.  Nice linen napkins/table coverings, silver (REAL silver too!!!) serving trays (I have not seen these pieces used in ages here at the church!!), "Queen" type food were just some of the offerings at this event!!!  Settle down, settle down, this was GEF event and the church did not pay for ANY of this food….

But boy, did the mayor and school officials and the SCOR volunteers rave and rave about your church on Wednesday!!!!!

It brought people into the church's facility that would not normally be here…..and some that DO NOT have a church home!!!!!

This building is FAR and away paying off dividends that Jimmy Sutton, Tony Roth, Tony Chalk, Patty Moore, George Davis, Sharon Midgette and so, so, so, so, so, many other "ground floor" visionaries even dreamed about!!!  The possibilities of out reach and furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ are LIMITLESS when it comes to your church's addition.  Be in prayer for ways that you can help in this endeavor of being a beacon to a lost and lonely world!!!!!

SOME CHILDREN ITEM UPDATES!!!

Bible Jeopardy has been canceled due to a lack of interest.

Bible Bucks Store will be open THIS SUNDAY (01 June) from

12-12:30 PM near the Holy Java!!!!

God's Little Readers (ages 3-4) will meet in the library on May 31st at 10:00.  Please bring your preschooler by to meet Millie the bookworm, listen to the story, "Mad Maddie Maxwell", and  work on fun activities about forgiveness.

I BOOGERED THIS
one up, but it could be one of the most important things in today's edition.  Throughout the month we try to highlight what the food of the month is.  This month I failed to adequately advertise this and our contribution to this mission has been down.  In yesterday's paper and on the news last night/this morning, food pantries are WAY down on their food donations.  Even though I can't get my act together to advertise it well, do you think that we could get our collective act together and make a last of the month push to get as much CANNED MEATS here to the church for Garner Area Ministry.
The food you provide will be put to GREAT use!!!  Please...................
