CHURCH CHAT

Church Chat June 10, 2008

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Peanut Butter and Jelly

CAN YOU TELL PRAYER

Was initiated???  Many moons ago in a galaxy, far, far, away some visionary folks came forward and started dreaming about what a new edition to a building at Garner church would look like.  One thing that they started praying about was a place where care givers could drop their loved one off and go to work or the beauty parlor or where ever and their loved one be safe.  Same was true with parents looking for a safe/fun place for their kids to be dropped off during the day as well.  Fast forward:  Due to the prayers of some, several years ago, we now have a Senior Adult Daycare and also an expanded Preschool and Track Out Program…..oh, did I tell you the best part……ALL (Senior Adult Daycare/Preschool/Track Out) do things together and all groups just LOVE the other!!!!

Never in anyone's wildest imagination would the hand to glove fit of just these three groups have ever been thought possible.

I wish that ALL of you could have seen the luau that the Senior Adult Daycare put on and invited the kids from the Track Out Program…..I don't know WHICH one had more fun!!!!!!!!!!!

All's because someone prayed and stepped out in faith.  What other "nuggets" does God have in store for us if we only step out??

SHUT THE DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unlike the gym, the sanctuary at the church is not used during the week very frequently, if at all.  For this reason we have cut the AC in this area way up and HAVE CLOSED OFF ALL THE DOORS to the sanctuary so the other units in the building are not also trying to cool this area.  PLEASE be mindful of this if you go into the sanctuary during the week…….CLOSE THE DOOR WHEN YOU COME OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CUT OFF THE LIGHTS!!!!!

With temp's in the 100's a BUNCH of church money is being spent to keep the place cool.  We need to look for ways to help cut back where we can.  ONE WAY IS TO CUT OUT THE LIGHTS!!  PLEASE, use ALL/ANY lights you need, but when through in a particular room/area CUT THE LIGHTS OUT!!!!!!!

(just as an example, EACH hanging sanctuary light is 600 watts of electricity, when the lights are on in the choir room it is 1800 watts, Fellowship Class 1200 watts, etc.)  With the budget situation we are facing we are attempting in EVERY way to cut back and save.  It's a good thing anyway to be frugal with electricity but especially now, in our budgetary situation.

BE IN PRAYER FOR THE

Wake Interfaith ("Our Communities Response to Homeless Families) families that are staying with us this week.  They will be here through Sunday morning.  Have you decided how you will reach out and help this group???  If you are being led to help, even if only behind the scenes, PLEASE contact Patty Moore, Amy Chalk or Lisa Nickalson for ways you can assist.

DO I NEED TO

Even mention that if you were planning on attending and have not yet signed up, that now is a GREAT time to register for VBS?????

Nothing like letting someone know so that they can plan for you/your child to be there!!!  REMEMBER!!!  This year there is something for everyone from preschool to three days just shy of the grave!!!!!!  Your church wants to reach ALL for Christ!!!!

TONIGHT MIDNIGHT!!!!

Money talks…….Patricia reports that a FEW more folks "signed" up to go white water rafting in July, but only a slight few have produced the money to make it official.  TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT is the "drop dead," time/date.  If you are going, you will need to have your deposit IN PATRICIA'S HAND by midnight tonight!!!!!!!!!!!

WE'RE FULL OF IT!!!!

Today, three classes of Preschool Summer Variety starts up here at your church!!!  There are two sessions of Preschool Summer Variety this year, now through 26 June and 08 July through 31 July.  In addition to this, a goodly amount of track out program kids are here as well.  There are four classes of adults taking English as a Second Language.  While the mom's (and some dad's) are upstairs taking ESL, there are two classes of ESL child care being administered as well.  And of course we have Wake Interfaith here this week too…….This building NEVER rests from being a beacon of light/hope/security to a world in desperate need of all three…….Thank you for supporting this beacon through your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service.

YOUR YOUNG'UN GOT SKILLS?????

First UMC in Cary is hosting The Raleigh District Music Arts Camp, "Parables n' Praise" July 14-18.  This is a half day camp for children in grades K thru 6th.  It's a wonderful opportunity for the children to grow spiritually as they get to choose from several electives (music, drama, crafts, puppets, and bells).  For more information stop by the Children's Ministry board and pick up a registration form or contact Carlene.

NATURE CAMP WANTING TO

Be offered!!!  Here's Carlene with some more details:  We would like to offer a nature camp for our children at Lake Benson this summer.  In order to run the camp we need volunteers to help with the crafts, relays, nature walk, service project, and field trip to Yates Mill.  Would you please let Carlene know if you are able to volunteer during one of the following proposed camp schedules?  Once we find out if we can organize enough volunteers

then we'll send out a detailed schedule.

Camp Dates:  July 23-25      9:00-1:00

                   July 29-30      10:00-1:00 (Precious Prophets)

                  August 6-8      9:00-1:00

                  August 27-29    9:00-1:00

All of the dates, except July 29-30, are for Little Apostles and Agape Kids.  Thanks, Carlene.
