Church Chat June 24, 2008

VBS BY THE NUMBERS…….

Vacation Bibile School by the numbers

3 - number of days of Backyard Fun.

5 - number of Bible stories brought to life for the children.

34 - man hours served at Cleveland Township Food Pantry by the Youth and their guides.

51 - # of volunteers who cooked, setup, taught, sang, acted, organized, photographed, etc.

63 - # of children/youth enrolled

185 - estimated # of pounds gained by participants with the abundance of food prepared by our amazing kitchen team.

206 - number of 'serving hands' made by the children representing ways they can serve Family, Friends, Neighbors, Community and Jesus.

380 - number of pictures snapped by our three photographers.

646 - $ collected for $1K for 1 Kid Methodist Home campaign this weekend.

Immeasurable - the impact our children will have on community and friends as they apply what they learned this weekend about sharing the love of Jesus Christ through service

We would once again like to thank everyone involved in the success of the weekend through donations, prayers and service.

Jill and Mary-Margaret.

DUDE….YOU SEEN THIS????

Just check out this site and see if you might better reconsider going with the youth on 29 June…….Why don't they have places like this for old folks like me?????  After reviewing this site, you might want to get with Patricia for more details…..Here's the site:

YOUTH VOCAL TEAM MEMBERS!!!!

Note to Brother Steve….DON'T START YOUTH VOCAL TEAM when the Youth are running all over the place doin' stuff!!!

The Youth are cordially invited to join Steve to look over music and do some singing Sunday right after the 11:00 worship in the choir room. Bring your own lunch and drinks will be waiting for you. Help the ol' bald guy find some good music for worship for the fall and then go to the Wii Bounce afterwards with the youth group!!!!

SWIM IN THE POND, SEE WILDLIFE
in their natural habitat, hear the crickets/bull frogs at night, actually see the stars in all their brilliance (without the dulling effect of street lights and city lights), help build a camp from the ground floor up, see your "labors," enjoyed by under privileged kids from Eastern North Carolina, gut a house, build a pier, build foot bridges, clear brush/scrub trees for walking/meditation trails, be in worship, commune with God in nature, be with other believers in the cause of Christ, make friends that will span a life time, do something with your time besides X-Box and MySpace, make a difference, be a witness to not only others in the community but with members of your own work team, be in peaceful and tranquil setting…….that's what you would have gotten AND MORE if you would have been able to go to The Refuge and work this year for the youth mission's team summer project……..Due to the interest that the youth have generated on this project, there are "tentative plans," for other groups in your church to filter down that way to help out as well.  Wanna go???  Day trip??  Over night trip??  Weekend trip??  Can't go, but want to be involved???  Can you pray??  Help sponsor the building of something in the camp??  A cabin??  Boat dock??  Interest has DEFINITELY been generated from this trip……CATCH THE WAVE!!!

NOT ENOUGH PHONES!!

There are not enough phones to go around for the staff at the church, so for that reason if you are calling the church to leave a message for the janitor, REMEMBER;  that his messages are forwarded to the library phone.  That means that the janitor has to REMEMBER to go to the library and check his messages.  Now put yourself in his place…..do you think you would remember to do this on a frequent basis????  Voice mail is one option (if you need something immediately, however DO NOT use voice mail for the janitor) and e-mail is another option.  It's not that the janitor is being non responsive to your voice mails, it's that his memory ain't what it used to be………..Can you hear me now????

CHURCH BAY:

MAINTENANCE PERSON SOUGHT:
"Looking for a full-time maintenance person to split two small apartment communities, one in Garner.  Benefits include health insurance, 15 paid leave days and 10 holidays, mileage reimbursement.  Salary will depend on skill level and experience.  If you know of anyone, contact Stacie at slh@pobox.com   Surely someone must know somebody!"

WE DELIVER!!!

Brother Tom Jones (member of our fellowship) is taking pharmacy to a whole new level now.  Brother Jones is offering FREE delivery of prescriptions filled at his place of business AND is willing to MATCH prescription prices of ALL local competitors!!

Delivery of prescriptions went out when Elle' on the Andy Griffith Show closed her shop and moved to Mt. Pilot!!!  Brother Jones has several other amenities at his place that other pharmacies don't offer.  If you have any questions, wish to sign up for this special service of delivery of prescriptions, PLEASE give Tom a call at

772-4737.  Tell him you heard about this from your church!!!!!

PET SITTING:

Missi states she has gotten some good responses to this and would like to have several people on her list in the event one person has a conflict.  Here's Missi's plea once again:  Kristofer and I are looking for a person that would take care of our 7 month old puppy, Bella, every now and then when we are out of town and can't take her with us.  She is a bully boxer, an English Bulldog/Boxer mix.  The person could stay at our house or have Bella at their house, whatever is easier.  We also have a cat that would need to be fed, but she is not as high maintenance as Bella.  We know we won't need anyone until after we are at our new house at the end of July.  Interested folks can contact me at mhbaker@nc.rr.com or 919-412-3274.  Thanks!  Missi Baker

BEACH PLACE STILL OPEN!!
Terri/Jerry Leeman still have their place at Carolina Beach up for rent for church folks (and friends of Church folks!!)  From their front deck you can see the life guard stands out on the ocean.  From their back deck you can watch the sunset.  Also, with them being on the Carolina Beach Marina water way, you can see all the fishing boats coming back in from a days fishing trip and thus see ALL the fish caught that day.  Right off from their place, a person can catch a "moonlit" cruise on one of the "party boats," that go out for a "3 hour tour," of the intercoastal waterway/lower Cape Fear River area.  They are within walking distance of one of the best breakfast places on the entire Crystal Coast: The Gulfstream Resturaant (it's a hidden treasure at Caroline Beach where mostly locals go to get up on all the island gossip and get one of the best breakfasts…EVER!!).

If you are looking for a quick (3 hours down I-40), clean, great location rental, give Terri/Jerry a call at:  851-8516 for more details.

Here's the link to a picture to just one of the views from their place: http://www.consultwebs.com/ncphotos/images/cb3/Dusk_9367_550wm.jpg

NOT A HAND OUT:

After someone hit her and totaled her car, my 74 year old mom is looking for a used car.  She does not have a lot of money to put into a car and realizes that she will not be driving for a many more years.  Do you have an extra vehicle that was just too good to "give" to the car dealership that you look to get rid of??  Or some other type scenario??  If you have such an animal, please contact me via return e-mail.  Thanks so much, Al Sutton.
