FOOD OF THE MONTH FOR JULY: Soup
GONE, BABY, GONE!!!
Hello!!! Can you hear me now??? Pastor Susan is over at Duke University THE ENTIRE MONTH OF JULY. She ain't here.
Voice mail/e-mail may CERTAINLY be sent to Pastor Susan, but she will not get EITHER until she comes in on Sundays and then she is in a "whirlwind." Even staff cannot readily get up with her, except through voice mail. Pastor Susan, if it's an emergency, will try and contact you back, BUT SHE'S GONE FOR THE MONTH OF JULY. PLEASE, if you are seeking immediate response from Pastor Susan and you are leaving it on her voice mail or e-mail….it ain't gonna happen!!!!! Can you hear me now?? You may call the church office and talk with someone there, but SUSAN IS GONE FOR THE MONTH OF JULY. Gone………………
NEVER FORGETTING TO SAY THANKS:
"Thank you so much for your support during this difficult time. The many cards, hugs, scrumptious food, warm visits, beautiful flowers, and generous donations are all so appreciated. Thank you ahead of time for the ramp being built for Pop, so outside excursions become easier. We are lucky to be part of this fabulous church family. Sincerely, The Stanton Family
WHAT RAMP FOR THE STANTONS????
As you read above a ramp is being installed at the Stantons so that Pop can be more mobile and get out more. Chris Allen is heading this project up and he states that this ain't no "only a select few," can help…..He'd love to have ANYONE!!! They will meet at the church THIS Saturday at 8:45 AM and then drive over to the Stantons. There are a few more things besides the ramp that need doing, so he really is asking for ANYONE that is willing to work to come on out!!! If you want more info on this, simply contact Chris Allen for more details.

FOR YEARS NOW, I HAVE HEARD
About Disciple Bible Study. I have heard and actually seen lives changed after folks have taken this study they really do want to be vital members of a Christian fellowship and really do want to know how Christ can transform their lives. But how did Disciple Bible Study come about?? What is it about?? What can I expect??
After checking out this link and you want to know more about this exciting study coming to your church this fall, get in contact with Edna Reynolds or Amy (used to be Sutton) Gregory!! But in the meantime, here's your link:

"REAL" MISSIONARIES!!!
Remember as a child when on Sunday night a stooped older man and "weathered," wife would come to your church and after a great covered dish meal they would show slides on a bed sheet of this old couples' exploits in some faraway land in the cause of Christ??? "Missionarying" has come a long way since then!!! Today, we have missionaries here in the States. We don't need to go to the mission field….the mission field is right here amongst us!!! To that end, Patricia's daughter Melissa and husband Adam are wanting to be missionaries on our nation's college campuses. Can you think of ANY place that needs to have the "dispelling" grace of Jesus Christ????? If you want to learn more about Adam/Melissa's vision, needs, desires and yes, their heart, then please, click on this link and see where God is leading you:

MY STARS!!!!!
Down in the fellowship hall (where this time of year it is eerily quiet) cleaning from the weekend when what to my wondering ears should appear, but the most melodious, upbeat, piano playing. What in the world was this??? Come to find out it was Missy Godfrey practicing for the Youth Drama team's Charlie Brown production that will take place at your church on 02, 03 August.
Lands sakes alive!! If the only thing that you come for is the music you are going to be mesmerized and just like a Calgon bath…you gonna be taken away!!!!! I have already spoken of the talent that is going to be showcased in this ministry production, but until yesterday I had NO idea that the musical score was going to be such!!! Missy The Amazing!!!! She WILL live up to this billing after you hear her play for this youth drama team ministry production.

MMMM!!! MMMMM!!! HEY 'TRICIA!!!!
Whatcha' got cooking!!!! This Sunday night starting at 5:30 PM in the gym, there will be a The Refuge Appreciation Dinner!!! This will be a way for this group to say, "THANKS" to all of you who helped support this project, by your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service!!! There will be in attendance the different work teams, there will be a slide show of the work that they did and wait….what's that…..Sammy Hudson is ALSO supposed to be in attendance!!!!! Oh my goodness!!! We gonna eat!!! Let you meet the different teams. Let you see some of their work!!! Sunday night, 5:30 PM in the gym!!! Don't miss this one!!!
I AM SICK OF
Hearing about HOPE, HOPE, HOPE!!! Oh really……..Let me break it down for you…..After this weekend, one of the HOPE ministry's 38 year old guests checked himself into a detox center. He asked for prayer, for he knows that what he is about to face is one of the most grueling of all his life. Also this weekend, his 20 year old daughter called and talked to him (he had not heard from her in over 15 years). She called to tell him that when he gets out of rehab, she wants to see him. Before she got off the phone with him, she called him "daddy." For the first time in 15 years, this man heard the voice of his "little girl" call him "daddy." You're right. What does it matter that someone comes each and every Saturday and stirs some beans in a pot and puts a little piece of meat with it? You're right. What does it matter that each and every Saturday a volunteer cleans a shower after a person who has probably not bathed since the last Saturday, has bathed? What does it matter?? More than probably this side of the veil will reveal. HOPE ministry needs your volunteerism. What the hey, you can't afford the gas to drive to the beach any how, might as well come and do something constructive!!!! HOPE needs you. HOPE matters.

ATTENTION ALL CHURCH FAMILY!!!
Please remember to join us in the Fellowship Hall, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, this Saturday, to help us celebrate Peanut's 1st birthday! It is thanks to all of your prayers and support that he is reaching this milestone and we want to share the celebration with as many of you as possible. Please don't bring gifts........just bring yourself and let us say "Thank You"! Come and stay a few minutes to say "Hi" or come and stay the entire two hours. It's entirely up to you, but please do come. Jeannie and Claude Ledford, Edna Reynolds, and Stephanie Veren.
AH ONE AND AH TWO AND AH THREE!!!
That's it!! You got it!!! and it continues like this four, five, six, seven....and so on.
That's the way we count. Since summer has started the counting of folks in attendance in worship has been sporadic at best. It has been over three weeks since ANY count at JOG has been recorded. There is always a "count card," either on top of the bulletins in the copier room when they are first picked up by the ushers on Sunday mornings OR there are PLENTY of these cards on the usher stand in the Narthex. Church statistician
can't "statitizie" if there are no numbers. Ushers, please help us out by counting AND logging these numbers on the count cards and either turn the count card in with the 11 AM tithes and offering or put in Wanda's mailslot in the copier room. Thanks so much for helping us keep accurate records!!!
WHAT WAS THE FINAL TOTAL????
GUMC Family,
The accounting department is done! All the checks have finally been turned in for Relay for Life and our grand total is $24,382.14! Thanks to all who helped with this worthwhile cause. We hope to rise to the occasion and raise more money next year.
Thanks Missi Baker.
WHAT CAN I DO???
During the summer months a "to do list," is generated of things that can be done around the church while the church is in "down time." If you would be interested in doing somethings around the church, there will be a "to do list" posted on the copier room door. If you plan on doing this project will you cross this project off the list and then PRINT your name beside this project so we know that it is being taken care of??
**ONE DISCLAIMER** Due to the church's financial situation at the moment, if any project on this list requires that church funds be spent please get PRIOR, PRIOR approval from Ed Woolson, chairperson of the board of trustees. Thank you for helping your church function at it's most optimum level!!!!!!
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN
as long as I can remember church members are taking better care of our church facility than our outside groups!!! This is a MAJOR feat!!!! Thanks to ALL of you who have helped us during these lean financial times by closing the doors to the sanctuary during the week, due to there being little AC ran in this area. The membership is also been VERY good about cutting out lights when they leave the building at night and somebody pass the nitro glycerin tablets, you have even started locking the outside doors at night!!! Now I know that I have just jinxed this, but I just could not pass by and give praise where praise is due!!!! For once in a great while ya'll have surpassed outside groups at being better stewards of your own facility!!! What'a group!!!!!!!
