Those of you who have a few extra poles, will you deny the opportunity to "take a kid fishing???" Don't need you to go, but do need a fishing pole for some of the kids. If you have a pole you would let them borrow, PLEASE get with Carlene as soon as possible. Thanks!!!!

Do You Know The Bible Like a GUMC Kid?
July 27, 2008 12:00-1:30 PM
Come out July 27th for lunch and lots of laughs as our adult contestants try to see if they know the Bible like a GUMC kid. Please contact the church office for your ticket if you plan to attend. Donations will be accepted and the proceeds will be used to help the children reach their goal of $1000 to help support a child for one year at the Methodist Home for Children. Thanks, Carlene.
IF NO BETTER RESPONSE
for the "Do You Know Your Bible Like A GUMC Kid," is received by Thursday this event will have to be cancelled. NO ONE has signed up for the meal and Carlene still needs contestants for the game........Let Carlene know by Thursday or we will have to knock this one in the head....and thereby knock in the head our attempts at raising funds for a child at the NC Methodist Home for Children. Say it loud and say it proud if you don't want us to knock this thing in the head!!!!!
WHAT A MOST EXCELLENT DAY!!!
Patricia and her work team report some of the most unbelievable progress in their work day on Saturday past at The Refuge. I think some of the folks from Garner church have caught "the vision," of what is going to take place in this special 160 acres of "God's country." Garner church has worked so one of the foot bridges at The Refuge that has been nicknamed, "Garner's Gateway!!" One day…..years in the future…..these Troopers for Kingdom are going to go down to this camp and see ALL the hundreds of kids running and playing and swimming and canoeing and camping and with pride say, "I helped." Will you be willing to help too?????
COLLEGE AGE YOUNG ADULTS!!!!!!
Patricia wanted to remind you about this: The van will be leaving the church at 6:15 to go and hear Shane Clairborne speak about his new book "Jesus for President." There is no cost for this event, but bring money for Starbucks afterward. We will be going to the Starbucks on Peace St. for a time of group discussion and reflection on what we have just heard. We should return to the church by 10:30 PM. Thanks, Patricia.
LET'S GET WET'N WILD!!!!!
All youth who are planning to go to Emerald Pointe this Saturday MUST let Patricia know by Thursday Noon. Cost is $23, lockers rent for $9 and you will need money for lunch in the park and fast food on the way home.
Can you hear Patricia now????????
SINCE BEING HERE
for visiting and securing needed funding for their missionary work to college age youth, Adam and Melissa Hoffman (Patricia's daughter and son in law) have had some God moments!!! God has opened some doors to them that are truly amazing!!! If you would PLEASE continue Adam and Melissa in prayer they would be most appreciative I am sure. If you would like to find out more about what Adam and Melissa are being called to do, I am going to link you to their info. Through this web site you can get info on how you can be kept abreast of their "faith walk," on this missionary journey, their updates, prayer concerns and other ways that you can be in support of them. How good God is to allow us to have "real live" missionariers in our midst AND be able to support them in creative and various ways!!!! Here's their site: http://www.thehoffmans.info/
WITH CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Last Wednesday we watched the "vote count," at Lake Junaluska to see if our Assistant to the Bishop (and former member of sister church St. Andrew's UMC) Paul Leeland would be elected to become a Bishop....and sure enough he did!!!!! I did not feel it prudent to report this on last Friday, but since it came out in the N & O on Saturday, I felt I could blab it then. We wish Paul and Mrs. Janet well in their new adventure and travels.
It is only in the "speculation" stage now, as to where Bishop Leeland will be appointed.
