"YOU TOLD A STORY!!"
Someone (Fritz Sterling) has come forward and stated that Joe Koon did not actually tell the truth on the Sunday that Joe got up and spoke to the church about workers for the HOPE ministry. This someone (Fritz Sterling) stated that it is "not an all day Saturday event," but in actuality it is only from 2-4 PM on Saturdays that they need men to show up and stand around and talk......Mercy how different is that than what most men......let me hush.....And someone (Fritz Sterling) also said he is tired of looking at the same faces up there to help every Saturday and would REALLY love to see some new smiling faces ALONG with the regulars. I have heard it said that it is not the better part of discreation to mention people's name in heresay conversations so I won't say who this someone (it was Fritz Sterling) was that said all this. I'll just let you mind wonder who this someone (it was Fritz Sterling) was/is.
AND AWAY THEY WENT!!!!
Around 5:30 PM on Tuesday past, George and Sara Davis's belongings were packed up in a large trailer and they and their belongings headed for Kill Devils Hill. Olin Davis (their son who was moving them) called on Wednesday morning and stated that later that afternoon George and Sara would be arriving from Elizabeth City (where they spent the night with their daughter) to their new home, all set up, sheets on the bed, clothes in the closet, and many, many new friends to greet them!!!! What an exciting time for George and Sara to be moving to one of the most quaint, but fast growing areas of the country. Please keep in contact with George and Sara for as they were being packed up on Tuesday afternoon, the largest and latest pencil drawing (expertly framed) of Garner church was in a pile to be loaded. Sara demanded that this picture be put nearest the back of the trailer so that it would be the first thing hung in their new home.........Faithful and dedicated members of Garner church, even 3 hours away........
WOW!!!!!
First it was the enlarging of the choir member's music slots for each choir member. Then it was the staining of the choir slots. Then came the staining (to match the choir slots) of the choir robes armoires'. Then came the rearranging of the chairs and other furniture in the choir room. Then on Wednesday past Mose/Martha Wiseman of
"The Finishing Touch," (see Church Bay below) window treatments/blinds/etc., came and hung new window treatments and stained Plantation blinds. While the window treatments were being hung, Fritz, Ed Woolson and Kermit came in and hung all new lighting in the choir room. And you talking about making a "purse out of a sow's ear!!!" it is unbelievable what these folks have done to make the choir room one of the spiffiest places in the entire church!!!! Stop by sometime and SEE what has happened in this room…….bring your sun shades!!!!!!!

DON'T KNOW HOW TO SAY
Thanks but to just say, "Thanks!" Here's Carlene: Thank you to everyone for helping the children reach their goal of $1000.00 for the Methodist Home for Children!!! The money will be used to support one child for an entire year. Thanks for your generosity!
WAS THE ONLY THING THAT
Was done during Operation Restoration building and repairing??? Absolutely not!!! Here's Carlene with something else that was "built up:" The Bible school offered during Operation Restoration was a great success. The children learned ways that they can serve their families, neighbors, and Jesus through music, Bible stories, crafts, and games. They made and distributed flower pots and baskets filled with cookies and brownies for the people whose homes were being repaired. We would like to thank all of those who volunteered! The children had a wonderful time and are ready to do it again next year. Thanks, Carlene.
SOME MONEY WAS FOUND…
No not really, but if I titled this article representing what it was written for, how many of you would actually have read it?????
Here's Carlene: We need a Children's church and Children's Sunday school coordinator. The person(s) will be responsible for putting together and maintaining a schedule for the teachers. If interested please contact Carlene Lucas.
YOUNG'UNS AND PARENTS OF YOUNG'UNS!!
On August 24th (yes, that's THIS SUNDAY!!!) from 5-6:30 PM, GUMC kids (Pre-K thru 5th grade) are invited to come make a splash at our back to school blast!!! We will have various water activities to cool off after having such a scorching hot summer. Hot dogs, beverages, and desserts will be served. All this fun and all we ask is for donations of school supplies, even if it is only one pencil or a pack of paper. NO GIFT IS TOO SMALL!!!! We would also appreciate side dishes to go with our hot dog meal. Anyone who is interested in helping with this event, please call Julie Delaney 661-0719 (home) or 696-8829 (cell) or you may contact Carlene Lucas as well. Thank you so much, Julie Delaney.
IS THERE NOT SOME INFO
On Children's Programming for this Fall???? Funny you should ask. Here's Carlene: Information and registration forms for our Children's Fall Program will also be available for parents at our Back to School Blast. Our Sunday night program begins September 7th from 5:00-6:30. So come on out this Sunday, August 24th and have a blast with the water games and find out about our Children's Sunday night program, where the children will have the opportunity to perform in our fall musical or participate in our Kid's Give.
NOT THE NORMAL
"blah, blah, blah, blah," church meeting!!!! This will be the case for the Church Council retreat that will be held here in the gym on 27 September from 9 AM till later in the afternoon on the same day. REALLY, this one is NOT going to be the "same old, same old." It is going to be asking YOUR OPINION on planning for the fall/winter/spring/summer of 2008 and 2009. If you are a Church Council member your voice is WANTED to be heard!! Snacks in the morning, full fledged lunch at noon, discussion, prayer, LISTENING, are just some of the highlights of this event.
Truly, truly, truly, if you are a Church Council member you are not only invited but ENCOURAGED to be a part of this monumental and highly unusal event........your voice being heard!!!!! Church Council members PLEASE contact Wanda TODAY and let her put a check by your name as attending this event. Without some input, there's no need to complain.
HOW LOVELY THE FLOWERS…..The altar flowers over the past few months have been some of the most exquisite in all of Garner churches!!! You folks have done very well in offering these adornments to the glory of God. But it is a shame to allow flowers that cost anywhere from $30 to well…upwards amounts go to waste. So to that end, PLEASE, PLEASE, when you place your order for sanctuary flowers with Wanda, LET HER KNOW IF YOU/YOUR FAMILY PLAN ON GETTING THE FLOWERS. If staff does not know and has not heard we donate this flowers to one of the assisted living places in Garner OR our own Senior Adult Daycare downstairs. SPECIAL NOTE: After church on Sundays, the air in the sanctuary is cut to 78-80 degrees and all the doors are closed to this area. THEREFORE any flowers left in there after 11 AM worship on Sunday will soon "melt." Please help us ensure that your sanctuary flowers continue to give and give and give and give.
YOUR NEWS IN YOUR OWN HANDS…..Ok, just wanted to point something out to EVERYONE (staff as well) 26 August things start getting back into full swing up here at the church. Church Chat will have to start going back to the "second row," of things that I do. So, for that reason, I got to set up a deadline on stuff to Church Chat. Here goes:**For Tuesday's posting submission will be BEFORE 7 PM onthe MONDAY night before the Tuesday running of Church Chat.**For Friday's posting submission will be BEFORE 7 PM onthe THURSDAY night before the Friday running of Church Chat.I make PLENTY of mistakes on my own. Formatting, spell checking, accurate information CANNOT be left up to "last minute filers." And please don't worry, if your article submission does not fall under the criteria above it will be ran in the NEXT edition of Church Chat. Thank you for your most kind consideration to this directive. HUGE!! HUGE!!! SUCCESS!!!
Many of ya'll support Operation Restoration with your prayers, your gifts, your time and your service!! And because of ALL of these, Operation Restoration was a very overwhelming success!!!! Here are some facts about the event: Operation Restoration involved 8 area churches and the people of those churches raised over $10,000 to help people in our community with such projects as replace a roof, tear down a rotting deck and build a new deck, build a handicap ramp for a woman whose feet have not touched the ground since June 8, replaced a kitchen floor, repaired leaks in a bathroom, painted cabinets, replaced a front porch that was about to fall in, neighborhood clean up, yard work for some elderly people in the community...VBS for the children...community pig pickin' for the community behind Wake Baptist Grove where most of these projects tookplace. One man came up and said he had seen those bright yellow shirts all week and wondered what was going on when we told him he praised God and asked how his church could become involved. Thanks for your support on this!! Pastor Susan.
