01 SEPTEMBER OFFICE CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY!!!!

LAST CALL FOR DISCIPLE II PARTICIPANTS!
If you're interested, but have been waffling on your decision, NOW IS THE TIME!!!!  Books must be obtained next week in order for this study to begin after Labor Day.  There are currently only 3 people signed up for D-II and I need at least 3 more.  Come on and join us!  You've already done the HARD one.  D-II is not nearly as demanding as D-I was!  So get off the fence and join in a great Bible study!  Thanks, Edna.

PRAISE GOODNESS!!!!
It seems I am always "a day late and a dollar short...."  There were some GREAT Bible studies being offered by one of the premiere Biblical instructors on the East Coast right here at Garner church and for the life of me, I have lost my bulletin insert from last Sunday so I can sign up.....is there any place I can get more info on this study and in fact also SHARE these exciting study sign ups with others???  You betcha!!!  Here you go:

TWO MORE CLASSES..........
Due to the OVERWHELMING need for more ENGLISH teaching classes your church has stepped up, YET AGAIN, to this call!!!  On Monday and Wednesday now, the ESL program at your church is doing an "advanced," class of English as a Second Language
in that the students are doing a more "hands on" practical application of the mastery of English.  They are having to "use" their new found language in these classes and not just learning, "a, e, i, o and u."  There is NO child care for the Mon-Wed group but there is child care for the Tues-Thurs-Friday group.  And our child care funds are suffering GREATLY.  If you have received a "windfall" lately, would you be in prayer about scuttling a bit of these funds towards this childcare fund, so we can continue to offer English classes to folks so we can assimilate folks into American culture????

WHAT A TESTIMONY!!!!
What a testimony to the "faithfulness" of your fellowship to offer these ESL classes.
And to put a "little more face" onto this program.....this quarter (which started on Tuesday past) has a persecuted Christian from The Sudan in this group, sister to two brothers of our Montangards that we sponsored a few years ago is now here in the States and she is learning English through your church's program.  Also we have an actual lady from France (in the past we have done French speaking Africans {sort of a different dialect}), also this time, folks from China, Colombia and other far flung reaches of the world.  But if you want to see the children's song, "....red and yellow, black and white, all are precious in His sight.." lived out, come some time and just see what God is doing for His people through you and your church in the ESL program!!!!!

THIS MONDAY!!! OFFICE CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY!!!

CHILDREN'S FALL PROGRAMMING TO BEGIN!!!!
The Children's Fall Programs will kickoff on September 7th from 5:00-6:30 for children ages 3 years to 5th grade.  The children will have the opportunity to choose between Made for Praise (Christmas musical) or Made for J.O.Y. (Kid's Give).  For more information or registration forms there will be a table set up in the gathering area this Sunday morning.  Please stop by the table and find out all of the details.

LOOK WHAT YA'LL DID!!!!!
A great BIG THANKS goes out to everyone for bringing in all of the school supplies!  Thank you so much for you generosity! We filled FIVE large boxes and several small boxes and bags. The supplies were very much appreciated by the school, and will bring smiles to many children.  Thank you!!

KID'S GIVE............Small group leaders are still needed for our Kid's Give.  The volunteers will help a small group of children with their service projects each week.  You don't have to commit to every week.  We are meeting ten weeks during the fall, so if you are able to help us out at least once or twice that would be wonderful, and you are more than welcome to come out every week if you can. You will have a great time working with the children on some fun and rewarding service projects.  Please call (772-2042) or email (carlene.lucas@garnerumc.org) Carlene Lucas to sign up or to receive more details.  PARTIALLY RIGHT.........Need to do a little correcting from this week.....Brother John Wortham has in fact served 33 FULL TIME years in the National Guard AND he also served four years part time in the guard.  So on this Wednesday past John was recognized by a huge turn out of folks honoring him for 37 years in the Guard and not just the 33 years that I gave him credit for on Tuesday!!!  Way to go Big Dawg!!!

MISSION OUTREACH AT THIS TIME:
**Food of the Month:  Soup
**Old cell phones needed for recycling.

ITTY BITTY LEGS DON'T FAIL ME NOW!!!!!!
Whew!!! With Brother Bob on his much deserved time away, "Itty Bitty" legs Susan been RUNNING!!! In fact, you remember back when as kids we watched "real" cartoons where a character got scared and they got going so fast that their legs were going 600 mph and their body had not caught up with the legs yet????  That's been Pastor Susan of late.........."hospital here, hospital there, hospital everywhere, visit there, visit here, visit everywhere......ol' McBob had a church, E, I, E, I, O!!!!"  Well that's been Pastor Susan this week.  On top of ALL that she has done for the congregation this week she has also kept "MOST" of the staff heading in the right/forward direction!!!!  If you see Susan and she reminds you of a Hanna-Barbera character.......that's not the case.....she just been made to feel like one with all the running she has done this week!!!

IF A WOMAN WANTED TO
take that Bible Study that was advertised in Church Chat on Tuesday what were they supposed to do again??  For ALL the answers (and if not answered on this site, the telephone number for the contact is listed) here's a PERFECT place to start:

WHAT A BLESSING!!!!
Not sure the exact title of his sermon on Sunday, but Pastor Jack Benfield will be the "preaching" pastor at worship on Sunday.  But isn't Garner church blessed to have Pastors Bob, Susan, Jack, Chuck who can all deliver the message and then on top of that, Garner church is full of certified Lay Speakers to beat the band!!!  In addition to Pastor Jack bringing the spoken Word on Sunday, he will also be bringing the sung Word as well as he will be rendering a solo at both the 8:30 and 11 AM worship hours.

IT'S WORSHIP TIME!!!!
8:30 AM  -  Traditional Worship:  Prelude: "Prelude and Fugue in Bb"  Bill McClure, organ.  Anthem:  "To Be Like Jesus," Pastor Jack.  Offertory: "Almighty Father,"  Bill McClure, organ.

9:45 AM  - Contemporary Worship:

11   AM  -  Traditional Worship:  Anthem: "Family of Faith," Chancel Choir.
Offertory:  "To Be Like Jesus," Pastor Jack.
