Church Chat October 7, 2008

LITTLE "SPLAINING" HERE......

in the below e-mail you are going to hear something about a "potluck" dinner...and for you folks with Harnett County lineage, this means "covered dish," meal.  Another Harnett County lineage "splaining," we might need to do....In the below e-mail it talks about "an attachment."  This means at the very bottom of this e-mail (if this Harnett County lineage writer got it right.....) there is gonna be a little blue writing.  Take your cursor and double click (with the left hand side of your mouse) on this little blue writing line and the document should appear on your computer screen.  If, after several attempts to make this happen, and it does not.......simply stop trying and just pick up a hard copy of this at the church when you are by there next...........

STEWARDSHIP MOMENT WITH
Amy Gregory:
Please join us this month as we focus on Stewardship.  Attached is the devotion for this first week.  Each week, we will send a new devotion and have hard copies available in the classrooms.  We are looking back at all that we have accomplished and dreaming forward about all we are being led to do.  We'll be celebrating Sunday evening, October 12 with a "potluck" dinner at 5:00, the JOG band leading in song, and Rev. George Johnson sharing the message.  We invite everyone to join us in this time of fellowship as we look back and dream forward.  Thanks so much, Amy.

DID YOU GET YOUR
UNICEF box this weekend???  It's UNICEF time!!!!  Here's Lee Ellen with today's announcement:   UNICEF BOXES

October has arrived and so have our bright orange UNICEF Boxes for our month long collection to assist children around the world. Time for a UNICEF QUIZ, to check to see how much you know about this long standing program.  What does UNICEF stand for?

Don't know off the top of your head?  Check their website www.unicefusa.org   Boxes are available in the Gathering Area/Sanctuary exits.  Please take one home!  Return it on October 26th.  THANK YOU!

BEEN LOST???  GOT LOST???  DEALING WITH
LOSS???   Pastor Chuck will be beginning his new study on "Dealing with Loss," on 02, 09 and 16 November.  There are many aspects of "loss," including but not limited to, divorce, job, retirement, empty nest, health, wealth, etc.  Pastor Chuck is so good I believe that he could make Calculus "fun and understandable…"  If you are interested in taking this study, please contact Chuck directly at:  (919-538-2855) OR by letting Wanda know in the church office.  We need at least eight to register for the Bible Study.  Thanks. Chuck.

WEAR A YOUNG'UN OUT DAY!!!!

This coming Saturday, Carlene and the Gang are gonna be taking a bunch of young'uns to dig taters in Johnston County.  You got a young'un that "doesn't tire easily??"  You got a young'un a tad restless……Let them go with Carlene to dig taters and I GUARANTEE you that when they get back they will be a "different," child.  For those of you that have ever dug taters before, I know you are smiling at this one…..cause you KNOW it's true…..but anyway, K-5th grade will be going THIS Saturday to Johnston County to help dig potatoes to help stamp out hunger.

Get with Carlene if you are planning on going!!!!!

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Canned Meat (tuna, chicken, beef, etc.)

ANOTHER GREAT WORK OUT

For youth age and above will be had on Saturday as Patricia will be taking yet another work team to The Refuge to help finish up some of the jobs that they have started down there.  Now Trish is leaving EARLY, so make your plans now to PULL OUT OF THE CHURCH PARKING LOT AT 6 AM!!!  Bring a bag lunch!!!  Will work till 4 PM and be back in Garner by 6 PM!!!!!! Can it get any simpler than that???  If you need more info than what I have given you here, get with Patricia!!!!

AT THE RATE THINGS

are coming in for the ESL yard sale, the church should make about $4.12!!!  Man!!  Let's "swing for the fence!!!"  If you have items you want to get shed of, PLEASE bring them and put them in the court yard in the "roped" off area.  The proceeds from the yard sale will go to pay off the debt we now owe for ESL child care.  Can you help us now???

FOOD OF THE MONTH:  Canned meat

MEN'S GOLF OUTING TO

The Myrtle Beach area on 14-16 November is filling up faster than they expected!!!  So if you are planning on going on this outing and have not let Ronald Williams know by either signing up on the sign up sheet out side the library door OR by calling and speaking with him directly (919-422-7070) PLEASE do so quickly while he can still add rooms, meals and golf carts to his package.  THANKS!!!!

REMEMBER…..

"Gently used" blankets and "hoodies," are now being collected by HOPE ministry as nights are starting to get cooler, especially if you are sleeping "under the stars," and the only source of heat is a 55 gallon drum with wood in the bottom of it and it set on fire.

In pretty great need of these items…..Bring them to the Mission Collection bins by the elevators.

WHAT IN THE WORLD????

What in the world is that "prop" in the gathering area???  Why is it there??  How long will it be there???  Are we now worshipping Santa Claus and Tickle-Me-Elmo????

It sure takes up a lot of space.  What's next a Ferris wheel????  More later................

WASN'T GONNA DO MUCH

with this next item, till later in the month (since it is not until 14-16 November), BUT.....due to the overwhelming response to this "adventure," there are ONLY 10 slots for youth left for this trip!!!!!  Of course I am talking about the youth retreat to Camp Don Lee.  So, yes all the cute boys (and girls) are going!!!  Yes, you would look PHAT!! in that outfit!!!  Yes, it is going to be a BLAST with Sammy Hudson running the show!!  OMG!!!!!  This one is to die for!!!!!!  If you were "on the fence" about this one get OFF the fence and get to skipping to Patricia and say, "yes'am I'ma goin'!!!!"  Did I tell you that there are only 10 slots left?????   Can you hear me now???

NO YOUTH PROGRAMMING THIS

Sunday night!!!!  NO YOUTH PROGRAMMING THIS Sunday night!!

Instead ALL youth are encouraged to attend the Stewardship Celebration in the gym with your families!!!!!!!!!

JUST A FEW MORE SIDES FOR HOPE

THANKS so much to those who have responded to our plea for more food for HOPE!  Only 3 more spots remain to help feed the increasing number who come to God's church on Saturday afternoons for a meal, a hot shower, and some positive fellowship.  If you would be willing to provide a side dish 4 times a year (once every 3 months), please send an email to HOPEmeals@yahoo.com   Even if you would like to be a substitute and provide a dish occasionally, we welcome you, and need you to be a part of this ministry team!  Questions, or to step up and volunteer, please email or call Lee Ellen at 662-0206.  Thanks so much for helping provide HOPE.
