We would like to welcome those Confrimands who joined the church on this Sunday past and they are:  Elizabeth Allen, Alyssa Clark, Bryan Boyette, Colleen Grady, Angus Johnson, Kenneth Perkinson, Caleb Pipkin, Parker Rand, Cameron Rouse, Maura Rouse, Jason Saville, Jordan Scally, Hayley Vinson.  In addition to these youth joining we also had the Naylor Family joining yesterday and they are:  Andy, Lyn, Emma and Julia.  Also joining the church on Sunday was Stu Gregory (yes, he "belongs" to Amy!!!).  Welcome to all these folks!!!!  

 

 
STOP THE FLU!!!!
Flu shots are once again being offered at your church on the SAME day as the Craft Fair!!!  01 November.  The flu shots are being administered, once again this year, by Maxim Health Services.  The Maxim folks will be here from 9 AM till 12 noon on that date.  The cost is $30 for the flu shot and $45 for the pneumonia shot.  Maxim accepts: Medicare Part B, AETNA, Humania Gold, Partners. 'Den Bring IT!!  The Youth Creative arts folks are seeking folks with "some talent," to audition for the upcoming Christmas production.  Oh, and you don't have to sing and shake....oh wait, let me just stop flappin' my gums and let your eyes do the rest.  Here goes:  Youth Creative Arts Christmas Play auditions will be held on Sunday Oct 19 from 3 - 5 and Thursday Oct 23 5:30-7:00.  Come prepared to read, sing a favorite Christmas Song and do a few creative movements.   There will parts that do not require singing or dancing also.   Alicia Howell & Lisa Ullman will be directing this fun Christmas show.  Auditions are open to anyone 6th grade and up.  This is gonna be another GREAT one like last year!!!!!!
 

TOUCH ANOTHER GENERATION....
Positively!!!  Even as ancient as I am, I can still name you some of my most favorite Sunday School teachers from years gone by when I was a child......Being a GOOD children's Sunday School teacher means you touch lives for generations to come.......Some of ya'll are good and positive, but are doing little with it as it pertains to Children's Sunday School...........Ain't it about time???  Here's Carlene: 
Children's Sunday school teachers are needed to teach one month each quarter.  That's only 4 months a year.  If you are interested or would like more information please contact Carlene.

WOMAN POWER!!!!
Let me break this down for you a little bit and see if some women's groups in the church can get behind this.....The ESL program is having a yard sale at the church on THIS coming Saturday.  There has been SOME good things put out for the sale by SOME of you.  But due to your church's ESL program really focusing on bringing women in to learn English (thus your church's program offering child care), there is almost NO males in this program.  The women need some help.  They really need some HELP on getting some stuff up to sale.  Being females they lack "pick up trucks," and abilities to go and pick up items from homes or to try and lift large items like washing machines or fridges.....but is there anyway that we as a church, especially fellow women, can do to help these mom's who are trying to better themselves and thusly better their families????
They are NOT asking for a hand out......they are only asking for some help..........Is that your back I see turning???  Not in this church........I know better!!!  
 
UNICEF UPDATE!!!!!!!!!
Here in North Carolina, we hear a lot about water and how much we have or don't have.  But really, we are so blessed!  UNICEF works hard around the world to provide such basic things as clean water for drinking and washing.  In Garner we just turn on the faucet.  Many families must walk a long way to a river or well, then too often the water collected needs treatment.  UNICEF helps provide good water and then educates kids about good health practices.Time once again for a UNICEF QUIZ.  As we learned last week, UNICEF began through the United Nations to serve children throughout the world. Besides Education, name 2 other UNICEF areas of focus worldwide. Keep filling your UNICEF box!  If you don't have one, boxes are still available in the Gathering Area/Sanctuary exits.

Oh, my me no, I am not talking about the good old Marvin Gaye song, but I am talking about the "Dealing with Loss," Bible Study that Pastor Chuck will be facilitating on 02, 09, 16 November.  There are enough signees that Pastor Chuck can, "get it on!!!"  Won't you come join them??  You got some friends or neighbors that you know are dealing with a loss???  Of money, of marriage, or death, of empty nest, etc.?  Just have them contact Wanda in the church office and she can get them signed up.  Just need to know ABOUT how many to expect.  Pastor Chuck ALWAYS does such a good job in so many areas of "teaching, preaching, story telling, Bible studies," that he really should be on a paid circuit....but he is doing this for FREE!!!!!  If you are dealing with a loss, then Pastor Chuck's study is THE place to be!!!!
 
WOW!!!
What a team!!!  A team of you went to The Refuge this weekend and boy did ya'll get on with the program!!!  Great team of workers were able to really move several projects hurling toward completion!!  In an effort to try and finish one or two of these projects before cold weather sets in, KEEP AN EYE OUT for one last push work day to really close out the fall season.  THANK YOU to ALL of you who have made such a difference in this endeavor to reach some kids that might not ever be reached!!!!
 
OK, IT'S DOWN TO THE WIRE
now......Camp Don Lee has been notified and asked if there is any more space to bring any more youth for the 14-16 November youth explosion retreat.....but no word back from them.....this is not a good sign for churches like Garner that need more space....BUT there are about 6 spaces left....and that will probably be it.....Once Don Lee hits the 300 person mark, the fire marshall will shut it down at that number.  It's gonna be a ROCKING weekend with Sammy Hudson running the show!!!!  So you KNOW it's gonna be one Spiritually charged and Spiritually filled weekend!!!  But in an atmosphere that many of we Christians have forgotten about....FUN SPIRITUALLY!!!!  Get with Patricia to ensure that your name is on the list!!!!

STUFFED BEAROn October 19th the children will be stuffing teddy bears and puppies for the 136 children that are patients at UNC hospital.  We'd like to first thank the Sunday Schools who generously donated money towards this worthy cause.  These stuffed animals will definitely bring smiles to many sick children, so we thank you for making it possible!  If you would like to help the children stuff the animals please come out this Sunday night at 5:00.  Thanks, Carlene.   

EMPTY BOWL CAMPAIGN THIS Sunday morning the children will be selling 'Empty Bowls' and Cookbooks in the gathering area as an effort to raise money for World Hunger and for a cow for a family in Africa.  Please stop by the table and support the kids and ask them how they have been raising money and serving others in our community and throughout the world.  Thank you for your support, Carlene.   

 

COOKIES TO BE SENT!!!On November 2nd the children will be putting together Cookie Care Packages for our troops as way of showing their love and appreciation for all these men and women do to keep us safe. JUST A FEEEEWWWW MORE!!!Come on, you can do it!!!  We only need about 10-12 more cell phones to make the order complete to send them off to aid military men/women the world throughout to be able to call home for free!!!!  PLEASE, if you have an old cell phone, blackberry, PDA,in a drawer somewhere or you are getting ready to upgrade, PLEASE consider dropping off your used appliance by the church.  With this old appliance, you can do more than you EVER realized!!!!  Thanks!!!!  

 

TRYING TO FINISH IT UP!!!!If you have worked on the foot bridge down at The Refuge, then you know where we are talking about, but this is a PUSH to get this finished before an open house that is to take place the early part of November.  So for that reason, there is a REAL BIG PUSH Saturday work day coming up on 25 October.  Finishing up the foot bridge and continuing the work inside the farm house are ASAP projects.  PLEASE consider going on the 25 October, to help finish up a project that you were on the ground floor of making happen.....and if you have never been before, come go with us and "fall in love,"
