CHURCH CHAT

Church Chat October 21, 2008

REMINDER TO "ALL" USERS OF GUMC FACILITIES:

Please use the rooms to which you have been assigned. Other groups may be scheduled into other rooms into which you move. As the Church's activities increase, this becomes a bigger and bigger problem.

Please turn off lights when you leave the rooms and the facility. If it appears that you are the last to leave, please make sure that the doors are secured.

When using the CLC, please use the lowest light setting that will meet your needs. Our electric bill averages nearly $5,000 per month. Please do what you can to cut our expenses.  Thank you,  The Trustee's GUMC

BRIDGE TO NO WHERE

coming into view now!!!  Of course am speaking of the foot bridge at The Refuge.  This bridge is really shaping up now and it's destination is now within sight!!!  The farm house is about to see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as dry wall is concerned.  So some projects are coming near to completion, but as one ends two more will present themselves.  And on this coming Saturday there will be yet another work team leaving Garner in the early morning to head that way to help finish out some projects and begin anew other ones.  If you can go, please get with Patricia so she can get your name on the list!!!!  Would really like to get a large push on some projects before the cold days of winter set in!!!!  Caravan pulls out at 6 AM SHARP!!! On Saturday morning.  Sack you a lunch.  Drinks/water/Gatorade provided by church!!!

BRING BOXES BACK!!!!

This coming Sunday is the Sunday to Bring Boxes Back -- as in filled, orange UNICEF boxes!  Thanks to the generous nature of the good people of GUMC, we are anticipating some real impact for children around the world.  Be a part!  Make a difference!  Bring back boxes!  On Sunday, October 26th, the 3rd grade Sunday School Class will Trick or Treat for UNICEF in the adult Sunday School classrooms.  Have your change available to help these kids help other kids.Time once again for a UNICEF QUIZ.   What year was the first official Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF?Bring back your box this Sunday!  Thanks for caring.

PLEA FOR HELP:

Al could you put this in Church Chat for me please.  I am in desperate need for volunteers to help me finish painting my house.  My doctor will not allow me to be on a ladder.  I need to have it done before it gets to cold.  I am almost finished with the low areas.  I will provide meals and drinks for all who help me.  Thanks,  Cindy Roberts  email:  croberts018@nc.rr.com

WE KNOW WE GOT IT GOOD!!!

The Cub Scouts of Pack 391 would like to offer a big 'THANK YOU' to the church for the wonderful facilities that are provided to us each week and for special events.  We have many new members this fall and some of those were in other Packs last year.  They have helped remind us that our facilities are 'top-notch' compared to many other Packs.  As a small token of appreciation, the Cub Scouts planted bulbs in some of the beds around the parking lots this past Saturday.  We hope in the spring, these new colors will remind you that this church makes a difference in the lives of many boys.  Thanks, Mary-Margaret McLeod

REACHING OUT.......

The above article gave me pause to let folks know just what all your church is doing in the reaching out department.

On Friday night a WHOLE bunch of Cub Scouts played a "life size," game of "Clue" in four Sunday School rooms in the church.  Four rooms were set up to simulate four different "rooms," from the popular board game.  Then the boys watched a movie and ate pop corn in the gym and "camped" out in tents in the gym for a lock in/sleep over.  While the cubs were upstairs there were over 50 participants at a local AA meeting (several people were upstairs for the Al-Anon meeting) Starting at 6:30 AM on Saturday morning the mom's from the ESL program were in your church's parking lot conducting a yard sale to try and offset the expense of child care for this program.  Around 10 AM the family for Ivonne Grady came in and put the finishing touches on the reception to follow Ivonne's Service of Remembrance.  At 2 PM the final guests had arrived and the service for Ivonne began.  Also at 2PM over 35 homeless persons were served in the downstairs facilities.  Following Ivonne's service, folks meandered over to the gym for a GREAT reception put on in behalf of Ivonne's life.......And this is not a typical weekend....some weekends it is even MORE busy!!!!!

ONE MORE TIME FOR EFFECT:

Please use the rooms to which you have been assigned. Other groups may be scheduled into other rooms into which you move. As the Church's activities increase, this becomes a bigger and bigger problem.

Please turn off lights when you leave the rooms and the facility. If it appears that you are the last to leave, please make sure that the doors are secured.

When using the CLC, please use the lowest light setting that will meet your needs. Our electric bill averages nearly $5,000 per month. Please do what you can to cut our expenses.  Thank you, The Trustee's GUMC

PLEASE HELP!!!!

My goodness have not been keeping an eye one of the most consistent "givers" to this fellowship but wanted to put a bug in your ear to see if you would be willing to help this "giver" out a bit...........The drink machine is down, down, down on drinks and we need an influx of drinks THIS WEEK (if at all possible!!!).  The varieties that we most desperately need are:  Coke (just plain Coke, no lemon, no cherry, just PLAIN Coke)

Diet Coke (see Coke "disclaimer.")  Diet Pepsi (PLAIN!!) Pepsi (PLAIN!!) Dr. Pepper (PLAIN!!), Mt. Dew, Diet Mt. Dew.   Hurry please!!  One of the greatest givers to this fellowship needs our help!!!!  Thanks!!!

YOUTH FEEDING

Patricia has the following exciting opportunity!!!  Attention Youth Parents.  November 9th is still open for providing supper for the youth.  The supper should include a main dish, drink & dessert.  We will reimburse you for your expenses for this meal so it won't cost you anything except your time.    Supper begins at 6:00 PM and ends at 6:30 so you would have to be available for preparing before 6 and clean up after 6:30.  You also get to choose the menu.  Sign up with another parent and share the fun!

AUDITIONS STILL BEING DONE!!!

Auditions for the Youth Creative Arts Program will be held on Thursday Oct 23 5:30-7:00.  Auditions are open to all 6th grade through adults.  There are parts for all so come out and be a part of this program.  Alicia Hawes and Lisa Ullman will be directing this Christmas show.
