Wonderful Wednesday

Wonderful Wednesday - Winter 2012

Kicks Off January 11th!

Wonderful Wednesday is an opportunity to gather on Wednesday nights at our church for a meal in the Christian Life Center, which will be followed by a number of opportunities for persons to “break out” into their particular areas of ministry.  For example, a number of things already happen on Wednesdays—like Choir, youth Bible Studies, other adult Bible Studies, hand bells, Mrs. Joanne's Bible Study, and men’s basketball, just to name a few.   All of those events will continue, but we will have other ongoing opportunities for children, youth and adults.  Our children's program, Faith Weaver Friends, also takes place on Wednesday night.

Menus will be planned and posted ahead of time and you will be asked to register your attendance each week either on-line or at the TIKI Hut no later than Sunday before that week's Wednesday.  Dinner will begin at 5:45 PM and end by 6:30.  The cost of the meal will be $5 for adults and $3 for children.  Activities will be through by 7:30 PM so that all concerned can get home at a reasonable time before a school/work day. This is a great opportunity to get together so we better know and appreciate each other!

There are also volunteer opportunities available with Wonderful Wednesday. If you are interested in learning how you or your group can help make this event a success please contact Pastor Bill or the church office.

Winter 2011 Wonderful Wednesday Schedule

Wednesday Night Men of Faith: Wednesday Night Men of Faith group is a diverse group of men who meet at 6:30 on Wednesday nights.  Their studies have ranged from different books of the Bible to the Companion’s in Christ series.  Come and enjoy this Bible study and the fellowship that a small group study provides.  For more information regarding this Bible study, contact Tony Chalk or contact Ricky Hines.

Wednesday Ladies Support Group:  We have been called a support group pretending to be a Bible study.  We decide as a group on the next book and don't plan in advance.  That way we might find a title that applies to something happening in someone's life right then, at least it always seems to work out that way.  Our current study is Life Interrupted.  The books always seem to be right on target.  We are happy to have anyone join the group.  It is a very open and loving group of women.  Our next book will start towards the end of August but you are welcome to join the group at any time.  The group is very informal and low key. Group Leader:  Joanne Davis

Lectio Devina:  Join us on Wednesday nights at 6:30 for an hour of Lectio Divina.  Lectio Divina is a spiritual practice for prayerful reading of the Bible.  Each week we study the scripture passage that our pastors will have as the basis for their sermons on the following Sunday.  No preparation and no homework.  Each session is exactly one hour.   Facilitator: Gayle Hines

Handbell Choir: The Handbell Choir provides music for four or five traditional worship services throughout the year from September through May.  The ability to read music is helpful but not required. Location:  Room 220.  If you are interested in joining this group please talk with Music Director Randy Chandler prior to September 7.

Power of A Praying Parent:  Youth Parents are invited to join other parents in a small group setting as they use the book "The Power of a Praying Parent" by Stormie Omartian.  The group will be encouraged to read a chapter a week in the book and then on Wednesday evenings when the group comes together, parents will discuss the chapter and there will be a time to pray for the youth.  Nancy Turner, Facilitator

Youth Bible Study: Meets each week in the Sr. High Youth room to study Scripture, discuss hot topics of today’s youth and share praises and prayers together as they grow in their faith.  This Bible study is open to all youth 6th grade - 12th grade.  Bring your bibles and come join us!

Youth Confirmation Class: Youth Confirmation Class is designed for youth sixth grade and up who want to learn more about the Christian faith, Christian and Methodist history and corporate and personal spiritual development in a focused way.  Confirmation is about the gift God has given us in Jesus Christ.  It is about how God has loved us.  It is about what we do to receive the gift and make it our own.  Confirmation is an opportunity for youth to say they profess their faith, to say what they believe.  The class meets in the Jr. High Youth Room.  Facilitator: Rev. Susan Hobbs

Tough Questions: Each Wednesday from January 11 through Feb 29 (excluding Feb 22 which is Ash Wednesday), the pastor will lead a special Bible Study which is related to the Tough Questions series by the Willow Creek Association.  The pastoral staff will deal with the “Tough Question” on one given Sunday and then Pastor Bill will lead a more in-depth study of those questions on Wednesday evening from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the room used by the Adult Day Care.  Scripture and topics for the weeks ahead include (1) How do you know God exists? (Psalm 19.1-6); (2) Is Christianity the only Religion (John 14.1-11); (3) How far do we carry the freedom of the gospel?  Do we have to obey authorities? (1 Peter 2.13-18 and Mattew 22.34-40); (4) How can we believe in the Bible?  Isn’t it full of myths? (Psalm 19.7-11 and II Timothy 3.16); (5) Why Do We Suffer (two parts….Job 2.1-10 and Job 40.1-14); and, (6), Is Hell Real? (John 3.16-21).

Join us each week as we deal with these “tough questions” in a balanced way and come to some conclusions for all of us as Christians.

Faith Friends: The Faith Friends kids, ages 4 years-5th grade, can come to room 158 at 6:15pm and will be done by 7:30pm. Parents or adult caregivers must sign them in downstairs and walk them to the classroom. The elementary kids start early (6:15pm) to give the kids 15 minutes of fun and fellowship with their friends before the Faith Friends program starts at 6:30pm. Come early and let the kids build a mega tower of cups, line up their dominoes, draw on the white board, or create some art while they get to know their faith friends better!!

We will continue to use hands on activities, games, crafts, skits, and music during class time too as we explore God’s message for us.  Mrs. Jean will be helping with activities and music and we will also have games and fun in the CLC or courtyard each week.

Amy Hoyes our staff childcare providers will be available on Wednesday nights to help with infants through 3 years with  volunteer support.

We are excited about all the activities taking place this fall. We are continuously adding new opportunities to come together and share in God's glory. If you would like to suggest an additional study or fellowship opportunity, please contact Pastor Bill or Pastor Susan! We want to hear from you!
